You need to complete all the steps, you should see the light blink faster. That means you're done.

will disconnecting the battery for a day do the same thing. or there an advantage to one method over the other.

 

dissconnecting the bat will work but you looses your pre set and set up in you A/V controls. no need to leave the batt off for a whole day though. 30 mins will be more then enough time. bacisally all you are doing is waiting for the capasitors in the system to fully discharge. It takes five time constants for this to happen. 30 mins will be fine for the batt disconnect.

 

it did blink faster (SES) so does that mean it did reset??

Damn this thing was tough!! i tried at first for it counting in my head (not too good of an idea lol) as soon as the AT light goes off start pressing the gas pedal hard 5 times in less then 5 seconds (4 secs is perfect) wait 7 then hold for 10-13 secs or until the CEL light flashes.thats when u nkows its workin....it gets tough but after i tried like 10 times no luck. came back here read a lil more and got my timer stop watch..and BOOM it worked after about 3 tries!!!. dont give up its pretty easy with the timer..btw i own an 09 g37X sedan. for more help u can go to youtube and search for Reset ECU for nissan TITAN (almost the SAME EXACT PROCEDURE). hope this helps. good luck n dont give up!

 

Just a note or two on the reset procedure:

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. (Do not do the 7 seconds count until you completed the 5 seconds count on the previous step) Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

There is another procedure mentioned as per a shop manual in which instead of the 2x 10 secounds counts, it's a 20 seconds count. That does not seem to reset the CEL.

 

If it install drop in filters (my car has 20k on it) should I reset the ecu? IS there any harm in doin so?

 

I tried this way like 20 times and gave up. I just disconnected my battery for a little; annoying setting radio stations again though.

 

Some of the instructions include warming up the car before doing this. Did you do it cold, or warm?

I tried this on two different times, never could get it to work the first time - tried 8-10 times. The second time I tried it, it worked after 2 tries. Maybe the engine was warm, I really can't remember.

 

The most important part is step 2, if you do that correct, it will work.

check this out.. i know i know its a titan... but it helped me..

 

I drove around the block and then parked and I turned everything off (air, lights, etc.) accept music. I used the song clock as a timer...

1st try... nothing to it, just follow the instructions.

 

2nd try for me - made sure engine was up to temp, parking brake on, steering wheel straight ahead, lights, stereo & air off.
I let it idle for 30 seconds and then drove it for about 10 miles with several of WOT accelerations.
I did this because I replaced the air filters with Cosworth drop-ins & HPS MAF-back silicone hoses. I'll be getting an Up-Rev tune after I change my exhaust.
Would this ECU reset be something recommended/needed after an Up-Rev?

 

Just did this and worked great. Problem I first had was pressing the first 5 accelerator pumps too slowly. 1 depression per second is actually quite fast. Bring a phone or other timer with you makes the process much easier. Also as others have said make sure your parking brake is on and that the AC is off as well as radio etc. I got it on the 3rd try after getting the first 5 pumps timed correctly!
