Went to the dealer and its going to cost well over $1k so I guess thats out of the question. He did tell me I could file an extension for 6 months though if I go to the secretary of state which I will do once It becomes the due date for the emission test.
I might have to look for something cheaper like a honda accord... or g35 maybe. Trying to lower my budget to 10k maybe 15k
Why would you take a 98' maxima to a dealer for repair? That's crazy!!! Take it to AutoZone and have them run the scan tool and find out what code it's throwing. And if you can't fix it yourself call around the small independent shop's for repair quotes.

Something about the oxygen sensors and exhaust and coils. I didn't even pay attention cuz i saw the price and just gave up on the car after that.
I don't think the o2 sensors are very much maybe 80 bucks from autozone. I replaced one on the wifes 2000 maxima. Simple fix with the loan a tool i got from auto zone. Also i would think if your coil pak is bad you would have a misfire. Did the mechanic say your catalytic converter was bad?

Yeah, i guess it gets to the piont the car isn't worth fixing. Although, my wifes 2000 GLE still drives like a dream with almost 200,000 miles on it. Is yours loaded with leather or just a plain GXE?

That's awesome! I just took poor care of it since I had it from when I first got my license as a teen. But now I will take my next car more seriously. Still got up to 173k and running until the damn emission test. Yeah it was fully loaded with leather and garage kept and babied until I got it around 80k.
Picked up a 2010 G37X coupe, 60,500 miles, premium and nav package, back in mid-November for $16K (taxes included) and from the original owner to boot. If I remember correctly, the autocheck score was just one point lower from the high end of the range.
Is the CPO worth it? Or is it a gamble to not get CPO and save a few thousand bucks.
I would just get the lowest mileage, non abused car you can afford. CPO or not!
And screw the extended warranty. Because after you factor that into the cost, you could have just bought a newer, lower mileage one for the same price. Mine was CPO, but what drew me to it ,was it only had 7800 miles on the clock! Oh yeah, get one with nav or you'll be bitch!ng about not being able to stream your tunes with bluetooth!
