Like these... glossy top coat, high-metallic dark gray (gunmetal), with white decals, either INFINITI or AKEBONO.

It's a serious look. Going with candy-colored calipers on a VR Sedan will look tacky, IMO.

Isn't the point of painting or coating the Akebonos to show them off? I think a dark color behind those wheels will make them disappear.

VR does limit the options if you are trying to keep it from looking tacky.

I still very much like the burnt copper color I went with on mine.

I think an orange, gold, yellow or copper looks the best with VR.

If you want to go against the grain, I've seen a baby blue set on a red car that looked kind of good. The only candy color that I think would look ok might be purple. But that I'd have to see on a good PS first.

There's always just doing them in red also.

I can't speak for Z, but no, that isn't the point at all.

I'm curious, what do you consider "the point" then. Not trying to argue just curious.

If the car didn't already come with Akebonos then the only reason, for me at least, to go through the expense of adding them would be for show.

And if I'm spending $1k for an appearance piece I'd want to enjoy it.

I understand what your saying, and I'm not trying to argue either... even though I can be argumentative, and this is a very subjective discussion. I also don't want to take up too much of Z's build thread for something off-topic.

Everybody is different, with their own personal motivations for why they would mod their car, with personal reasons on the choices they make. Thing is, I strongly suspect that if Z lived in the boonies, without anyone around, that he would *still* modify his car. In which case, he's doing it entirely for him and how the car makes him feel, irrespective of what he thinks might be the opinions or reactions of other people.

I don't think he's "showing off" his car here, or at meet-ups. I think he's sharing his hobby with like-minded people.

Just a guess.

I understand what you mean. I guess my use of the phrase "show off" could come across that way.
I do my mods for what I like and I too would still mod if no one else was around. It was more of a subjective "show off".

Sorry for the drift Z.

Now back to the build....

I purchased the Akebonos because I got a great deal on them (plus it was almost time to get my brakes services anyways)

That being said, I appreciate both performance and appearance. I do like the gunmetal idea, but maybe with a little more pop, so they don't get completely lost in the wheel. Gunmetal with a red metallic flake and red Akebono decals would be very unique.

Red is another option I've considered. It really depends on which route I take (powdercoat or paint). If I paint them myself, I can always change it up later on. I'm kinda stuck with powdercoat due to the cost.

To be honest I think any of these combos would look pretty good, I'm partial to Black w/ silver lettering though, and that one Maroon in the upper left would look pretty nice on the red depending on the wheels.

I don't necessarily want to hide my calipers though, which is why I'm hesitant to go with black or gunmetal (which doesn't look much different from the OEM silver anyways).

That maroon looks awesome, for the time being I'll be sticking with my black chrome vert wheels until 2018 (at the very least).

I think my top two choices right now is gloss white with red Akebono decals, or the pictured metallic maroon color.

Gloss white w/ red, not bad at all, especially if you have low dust brake pads.

That maroon that you showed me might of won me over for now... Now, to find which VHT high-temp paint matches it.

Another thing, I'll be purchasing my Fast Intentions cat-back soon. 2.5" piping, and the round (coupe) mufflers... What size resonators should I get? 12" or 18"?

It will be paired with Berk 2.5" HFC.

I completely forgot about your vert wheels in black chrome... that does change things up. And yes, the metallic maroon could be a very attractive combo. White, not so much. Ugh. But I've already projected my values as yours way-y too much here. Sorry.

If you're collecting opinions about the decal, I prefer INFINITI over Akebono, because its more subtle.

That's nonsense! I totally value your opinion because of your harshness and attention to detail

Just purchased some Philips X-Treme Ultinon T20 Amber LED turn signal bulbs for the front and rear. It's a Japanese-only product, and apparently one of the best LED bulbs on the market. Since I'm in Japan, I figured I'd grab them while I'm out here. Didn't want to pay the $110+ for the VLEDs. Also purchased a set for a friend who has a Toyota MR2 Spyder. I've attached some videos below so you can see the output of these bulbs. Only $48/set in Japan, awesome value if you ask me. Philips makes some top-notch stuff.
I'll be running these bulbs in the front, and in the rear, should match up nicely with my JDM tails.
