Rochester's new G
I was reading threads about an OEM plastic hose coupling that is known to fail over time. (Well, known to everyone except me.) That got me to thinking about how my car is 12 years old, and although the miles are low (51,000), old is old. This is something I'm reminded of ever time I look in the mirror.

So maybe I should plan on a bunch of stuff:
new pass side hose coupling; driver side too?
new upper & lower radiator hoses; other coolant hoses?
new thermostat
flush & fill at the shop
Anybody have any advice on the topic? I see Z1 Motorsports has an aluminum coupling for $34, which is overkill, but also rock solid. Probably just go with OEM replacements for the hoses and thermostat. Might have the shop install everything in sync with a flush & fill... probably easiest.
Last and only time I had the coolant system flushed & filled was 5 years ago. However, that was also only 12K miles ago. So I don't know how I should be persuaded here: age or miles.

I took the path you described of replacing hoses, thermostat, coolant. I also cleaned many of the areas around the hoses where I was otherwise unable to see. There's a write-up here: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...placement.html
I kick myself for not changing that 3/4" adapter at the same time.
Also, pretty cool that this thread is 10 years old.

Truth be told, the top of my steering wheel leather is getting worn out, and there's a huge blackish skid-mark-like wear pattern in the driver's seat that makes me sad. And it's not for lack of effort to keep things cleaned and conditioned, but it's a 12 year old Nissan and **** happens. I'm sure I'd be less critical if I had a black leather interior.
Thanks, Socket.

Actually had that part fail on my G a couple of years back and it left me stranded on a cold, 35° and rainy November night. My coupler cracked and let the coolant out. Terrible design to use plastic there, but it will fail at some point due to the heat cycles on the plastic. I would definitely err on the side of age and replace it or have your mechanic do it at your next oil change. Definitely worth it not to get stranded. I was only about 7 miles from home when it let go but it took me 3 hours to get home. I could only drive a little over a minute before I had to stop and let the engine cool down, which was 30-40 minutes of idle time.
I went with the Z1 aluminum replacement coupler going into the heater core. I replaced the hose coming off the engine at the time because why not, I was already in there. I will say that it was an absolute BEAR getting the clamp off the hose on the passenger side of the engine. I literally bought ever possible combination of long-handled pliers from Harbor freight that they had. I wound up cutting the hose clamp off with my dremel (using their flexible extension) and an small cutting wheel. I prepositioned a new clamp on the replacement hose and was able to fasten the new hose on with the pliers.
Also convenient is the Z1 version has a little bleeder port on it which was very helpful in bleeding the air out of the system.

Having told myself that I would drive my car more this year, I used it to go on college tour with my youngest, at a school a few hours away. After two years in college, her 85 year old university just shut their doors because of financial mismanagement. It was sudden, and a huge shock, but we're dealing with it. Things might actually turn out for the better, with the old adage about how one door shuts another will open, blah blah.
Anyway, the car was a joy to drive on a road trip, and we really had fun with it. Although there were a couple of weird moments in this one small town where we stopped for dinner. Twice, literally twice, people yelled at me to slow down. Thing is, I was never actually speeding, I just have a loud car, and in a quiet little town the exhaust is super noticeable.

LOL. I love how my car sounds at slow speeds with half-throttle. It just purrs.

where can I get that infiniti badge? Is it a whole trim piece or just a stick-on badge? Transforms the interior...

I've driven the car maybe 3 times in the last 4 weeks, and each was just a run to the market and back. Despite my best intentions, it's just not getting driven anymore.
All I do these days is wipe it down in the garage.
Feels like I'm neglecting something that's had outsized importance to me over the last decade. That, and it's such a ridiculously fun car to drive.

John don’t feel bad. I drove mine yesterday for the first time in well over a month. Actually, I’m not sure I’ve driven it since the Atlanta trip in May.
still love it.
need to do an oil change if the weather cooperates. It’s been a year, but only 4K miles.

Yeah, about the same here. Ill go up to my parents cottage every other week or so to help out in the garden, besides that it's a few short errand trips here and there. Kind of feels bad, but life is just going in this direction I guess.
