Help Upgrading from stock wheels & tires

Upgrading from stock wheels & tires

Hi All,

I currently have a 2009 G37S coupe, and im now starting to consider modding it for looks. Since im pretty much a noob to the whole scene, i was wondering if anyone has any advice to help make my ride look better in terms of wheels, tires, offsets, ect

Click on that bottom link "fat tires" on the above post, that should give you some ideas.
Keeping your offsets in the mid +20s will get you a proper fit without having to stretch your tires. Keep in mind 19s are better If you aren't dropped, 20s w/ a drop look

Thanks for the responses guys.

Is there anything I can do with my stock sport wheels (19") to improve the look? I need to get new tires anyways, so I would up the sizes to 245/40/19 in the front and 275/35/19 in the rear (i read these sizes will fit the stock sport wheels) but Im not sure how much difference these sizes will make for appearance. Any suggestions?

The larger width tires will give it an aggressive stance, are you planning on lowering it? IMO a mild drop really does a nice job closing the fender gap but still keeping the G livable on a daily basis. You can also have your wheels powdercoated. Quite a few have powdercoated their 19s in gunmetal for a very nice look.

I do plan on powder coating my stock rims a nice gun metal. What would I need to buy to lower my G slightly to close that gap?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We have many styles and sizes of wheels to choose from in our Upgrade Garage. Larger combination you go with the sportier the car will look, stiffer the ride will be. Once you choose a wheel then a tire can be narrowed down. We will then preassemble the package for you at no cost before shipping.

Thank you, sounds great. Here is a pic of my car, it would be nice to close that gap between the tire and body

Nice! First step in closing that gap is lowering the car. Using a taller tire diameter to do that will cause fitment issues. Lowering springs are what you'll need there.

If you want to keep it as simple and cheap as possible the Eibach lowering springs and wheel spacers will give you this exact look~

The Springs can be bought through Neal at Tirerack for about $250 give or take and the spacers through various vendors on the site, B2Autodesigns would be a good choice. I don't think Tirerack sells spacers. I'd lower it first, get the tires, then see if you want spacers. Spacers go for about $110 per axle and you should get a name brand such as H&R or Ichiba, the bolt on ones are a much easier install than the ones requiring new wheel studs. Once you lower the vehicle you'll need an alignment, most shops that deal w/ lowered vehicles a lot can get the toe & camber in spec without additional parts. If you go w/ a deeper drop than Eibachs you'll need camber & toe kits and this can get expensive (about $500 for the F&R sets). If you're not afraid to twist some wrenches the Spring install isn't too bad, bu tif you haven't done much auto work shops will change out your springs for a couple hundred bucks. This project requires you to call around as the price can vary quite a bit.

Thanks for the replies in this thread, really helps. I have another noob question, saw no need to create a new thread for it.

I'm about to get a new exhaust system on my G, i was just wondering if I will have any issues when I take the car in to infiniti for service? (My warranty has already expired).

It's actually more of an optical illusion as the bigger wheels, smaller tires & same large gap between the fenders makes the wheels appear even bigger than they are proportion wise. Just have to google Gs w/ 19s and compare the look of Gs w/ 20s on a stock suspension and you'll see the difference.

If it's a catback system (one that still keeps the OEM catalytic converters intact) there will be no issues w/ any emission control systems so you'll be fine.

Thanks! What happens if I get some HFC's? That was something I planned on doing in the future.

Usually they won't trip the Check Engine Light but it's possible, and since there is emissions involved it may cause an issue for a smog check but since I don't live in an area that requires them I can't say for certain. Since you're out of warranty you won't have to worry about voiding that
