Rotor Advice?

Whats goin on everybody, im new to the forum so dont hesate to correct me on any thing im doin wrong, i searched the forum and couldnt find an answer to my question.

I an in the market to get a 08 g37 coupe pretty soon and i had a question on the brakes. I was thinking about getting a big brake kit ,but was thinking of just getting new slotted/drilled rotors insted.

Can i just buy any kind of aftermarket rotors for my g37 or do i have to do any sort of mods to make them fit? Any advice or tips you could give me i would really appretiate

It'll already have a pretty decent sized rotor on there. Do you want bigger?

Anything made for a G37S will work with that car.

well what i WAS hoping for was that getting better rotors would be a good way to increase the braking capability without having to go buy a 1500+ big brake kit, seems cheeper, or am i wrong?

There are a few reasons people change their brake system:
-Appearance
-Eliminate brake fade
-Replacing warped rotors
-Eliminate unsprung weight

You need to first figure out which reason youre replacing it for. The stock sport brakes perform very well. It is more than enough to trigger the abs system, which is basically at the limit of your tire grip. There is really no point to upgrade the rotor and brake pads for this purpose.

However, if you track the car, the stock brakes can overheat and fade. For this reason, many people upgrade to larger BBK systems or better rotors and brake pads.

If you got the dough, you can also upgrade to 2 piece rotors to save weight. There are a couple of options available for this purpose too.

So figure out what you want and we'll go from there.

Exactly what he said. What exactly are you looking for when you say "increase braking capability"?

Are you looking to:

1. Stop faster?
2. Be able to brake from higher speeds without fading?
3. Be able to brake more times consecutively without fading?
4. Looking for more brake bite?
5. Bling?
6. Save weight?

Answers are:

1. Get better tires
2. Get pads with a higher maximum operating temp
3. Get pads with a higher maximum operating temp
4. Get more aggressive pads
5. Get a BBK
6. Replace the regular brakes with a SMALL BBK and 2 piece rotors (smaller than the OEM G37S BBK). Yes, small BBK.

The above 6 scenerios cover 99.8% of the people out there; if they don't let me know what your situation is and I may be able to point you the right way.

You can always have the calipers painted with high temp paint, and replace the rotors with slotted rotors.

Don't powdercoat the calipers.

Any heavy duty braking will destroy any painting you do to the calipers; see track STI/EVO/GT-R/Porsche/Ferrari/etc for examples. Street duty won't affect it.
