Akebono conversion ???s
Akebono conversion ???s
i'm not car tech guy so bear with me if this has been asked before. i want to put Akebono big brakes onto my '12 G37xS (AT). my question is, if i just get the calipers (and clips?), is installation just plug and play? if not, what other components would i need for it to work?
I've done the BBK conversion.
Should I consider a master cylinder upgrade as well? There is some indication elsewhere that this might be useful.
Is the MC different on the S models vs. non-S models?
To be sure, the brakes do feel great. No fade, linear response, good pedal feedback. So I'm wondering.
Thanks,
Sean

1. Yes, for the most part it's plug and play with some modification needed. You'd need to have to shave off the black plate( dust shield) of your current rotors to fit the bigger caliper. It is a DIY but if you're not a handyman then you should get it done by our local machanic.
Here is a well written instructions for the upgrade
2. Read up on a post by blnewt [URL="https://www.myg37.com/forums/brakes-and-suspension/258336-new-akebono-bbk-on-the-cheap.html"]here about buying calipers/rotors/pad for a discounted price.
3. Banjo bolts - You need longer Banjo bolts but if you also upgrade your brake lines these bolts will come with it.
4. One thing to note, If you choose this route then you should know that you can no longer use your current spare tires. You'd need to buy a spare tire that will for a sports sedan for fulfilment. ( Again this is optional)
