Do the calipers from discountinfinitiparts.com come painted oem silver or are they unfinished? I'm confused after all the talk on this thread about painting & powdercoating...

 

They are fully finished & painted factory silver w/ Infiniti lettering. Just like a brand new showroom fresh Sport pkg. G.

 

How do I go about confirming the bigger brakes will fit in my wheels (both summer and stock winter)?

does discount infiniti ever have free shipping or anything? Shipping of the calipers is $84.

 

I'm not sure if it was a special promotion but when I ordered them it was free shipping. Actually I ordered at the shipping rate and then I found out on here that it was free shipping. Then they subtracted the shipping rate from the total price.

 

Yeah when I was shopping for calipers I never saw a free shipping option on there either

 

FYI for anyone buying centric brake hardware kit for the Akebonos. The pins that comes with the rear kit are the same length as the fronts. That will cause them to poke out the rear calipers; As opposed to being flush. You will either need to cut them to be flush, or buy the OEM rear pins at substantially more. Cheapest I've seen is $6.16 per pin.

 

So looks like I have a problem and my pass rear caliper is leaking. I'm thinking rebuild as a first measure. I know there's DIYs for this but I rather take it somewhere.

Where have others gotten this work done? General mechanic? Brake shop? How much can I expect to pay(ballpark)?

Have to call around and get quotes, a independent brake shop would be a good first place to call, but should be a straightforward DIY if you don't mind getting a bit dirty lol.

Your calipers are almost new aren't they? check your bleed screws and brake line mounts first.

 

I'd love to tackle this myself. But I just don't have anywhere to do this type of work right now, living in an apt and all. Uh I bought calipers used. I have no idea if I bought them that way and the seller just didn't disclose or they got damaged during the install. At this point I don't care, I just want it fixed.

Since having the calipers installed...everything was fine until I noticed my brake light coming on under accel. I checked and yup my fluid level had dropped. I topped it off and it happened again slowly. So I had Infiniti check while they did my 60K and they confirmed that I am leaking brake fluid and the pass rear caliper looks to be leaking...so my thought is rebuild and hope that fixes it. If not then I guess new caliper, but hopefully not.

There's quite a few small shops near me, even within walking distance. So I guess I'll get quotes in the AM and hopefully drop the car off right then.

Hopefully it's just a seal, not uncommon, especially w/ a used caliper. If you have a corroded piston causing it not to seal then it will be a bit more, but still not too much $$ as long as there's no damage to the piston bore in the caliper.
More than likely it's a simple fix.
