Akebono swap...brake lines?

I have an 08 35 sport with the 13" front/rear brakes. I think rather than simply replacing rotors and pads im going to go with the Akebono's. From what i have gathered, the caliper itself is a direct bolt on, but what about the brake lines? Do i need seperate brake lines for the caliper aside from the ones that are currently on the car?

I was in exactly the same position as you. Needed to replace the rotors and pads on my HR sedan. Went with the Akebono BBK along with stainless steel lines. Forget the stock rubber lines, the SS are better and more consistent. I highly suggest you upgrade the lines as well. While you're at it, go with better pads too. The stock ceramic ones are just like the stock 08 G35S with weak initial bite.

I got my kit from Concept Z Performance. You can mix and match anything you want in the kit. If you want anything specific then just PM Coz@CZP and tell him what you want in the kit. He'll also give you a forum discount. I think they also offer caliper painting services now.

If you are getting the hard pipes that go from the caliper to the upright, you can use aftermarket SS lines like those from Goodridge. Just be sure to order the ones for the Sport model, not the standard brakes model.

If you didn't get the pipes, get them. Nothing is stiffer than steel tubing. Since the Akebono's are not the stiffest 4-piston calipers around, they need all the support they can get from the rest of the components.

Chris,

Thanks for the info and please forgive my ignorance. I am aware of stainless brake lines, but what are the hard pipes you mention?

Thanks,
Allan

The bent stainless tubing that is connected to the caliper should not be removed. Only the rubber lines should be replaced, which is what we had Goodridge do.

Thanks Chris.

So if I buy a set of the Goodridge lines and leave everything else OEM, I will be good?

Thanks again.

Correct! Make sure you use an upgraded fluid, like AP Racing Formula 5.1.

Thank Chris.

Time to do some shopping, after the boss (wife) leaves my office.

Take care,
Allan
