09 G37 vert to 12 sport bumper conversion, fog light wiring help with Alph

Need some help figuring out the fog light wiring on my car.

I have a 2009 Infiniti G37 convertible and I’m doing a 2012 sport bumper conversion. I also upgraded to AlphaRex Nova II headlights and I’m adding Morimoto XB LED fog lights in the lower bumper.

What I want is to keep the factory fog light control working from the steering wheel stalk.

On the 2009, the original fog light bulb was integrated into the headlight assembly. That old bulb was connected through the headlight harness with a gray wire and a yellow wire.

I tried connecting the Morimoto LED fogs directly to those wires, thinking that since those were the factory fog light wires, it should work. But the LEDs do not power on properly. At one point they seemed to work for a second, then nothing. Thought blown a fuse, but its not the fuse.

So I’m trying to figure out:
  • Are the gray and yellow wires from the original headlight fog bulb actually usable to trigger aftermarket fogs?
  • Is the factory circuit maybe not supplying the right voltage or ground for the Morimoto LEDs?
  • Do I need to use those factory wires only as a trigger for a relay harness instead of powering the LEDs directly?
  • Has anyone done this exact setup on a 2009 G37 with AlphaRex headlights and a sport bumper conversion?

I’d really like to retain the OEM stalk control instead of adding a separate switch.

Any help with wiring diagrams, relay suggestions, or someone who has done this before would be appreciated.
