Help license plate lights going out
license plate lights going out
Late 2019 I purchased plate lights from Diode Dynamics and in April 2022 one of them went out. I contacted DD and they sent a replacement. Now it's Feb 2023 and another went out. I don't remember if I switched them before because I know I was testing the still working LED in the socket which the old LED went out in to confirm it's not the car. The right side one went out, and these light diffuser things are a pain to get in and out on the sedan so I want to minimize having to go through the replacement process.
Last time I contacted Diode Dynamics and told them my order number and situation and that I tested the working light in the socket the bad light went out in and it was working fine. They confirmed my address and sent me a replacement light. This time I called and just said "I have a liceanse plate light that went out and I'm wondering if something can be done about it". They asked when I ordered and I said Nov 2 2019. They confirmed my address and told me they would send it out as soon as possible. That must be a really good warranty or they let people slide because that's over 3 years ago that I purchased the light and they are sending a replacement NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Every time I have ever called them they have been great.
So I have these questions:
1. Should the washer in there on the light plug be loose? I'm wondering if maybe the washer is bad and something is getting inside and damaging these lights. Is this a known issue? I can't find anything about this online.
2. While am at it, are there upgraded diffuser things that I can replace the stock ones with?
3. Are the OEM ones easy to take apart and clean out?
4. Does anyone have the part number for the OEM ones?
5. Does anyone know of a modification to make those stupid cables longer or some way to make it easier to replace these lights? I reached out to Silverfox and he has the same issue on his sedan with the lights being a pain. I would love to improve the design somehow if anyone has ideas on that.
