I'm considering putting these LEDs in my coupe.

If I remember correctly, none of the interior lights nor the license plate lights use reflectors to distribute the light, but rather just the light straight from the bulb, so I'm thinking these should direct more light out from the housings.

Has anyone tried using 180 degree LEDs like this in their cars? can you see in the individual diodes and if so, does it look weird?

 

I don't know if you would necessarily get MORE light from these because I'm not familiar with the quality, but I'm pretty darn certain there is no way you would ever see individual diodes in any application mentioned- most of the interior lights have "frosted" covers which would mute any visibility of individual diodes and evenly disperse the light, on top of that unless they are total crap and are super dim I would bet you couldn't see the individual diodes even looking directly at the bulb when illuminated (outside of any housing) because of how much light the LEDs kick out. The license plate housings clip in under the bumper overhang so even if the individual diodes WERE visible, you would have to be laying on the ground looking up towards the bumper to see them.

 

Maybe seeing the diodes is a bit of an exaggeration, but with my current set of LEDs you can definitely see the concentrated points of intensity, since there are individual, seperated diodes each of the 5 sides of the bulb. I'm hoping that with a diode arrangement like the one I linked, that wouldn't be the case, since it will have so many diodes next to each other.

With the License plate, I was more curious if the projection pattern from the LEDs would end up being too direct and not dispersed enough, or maybe the bulbs could potentially turn in their socket over time, which with the arrangement on these would drastically reduce the amount of light thrown out.
