Recently acquired a 2009 G37x and the wiring for the license plate lamps was cut where the bulbs would be above the plate and bracket piece that holds the bulbs in is not there either and so the bulbs are gone as well obviously, so it's missing that entire assembly so it's probably a cheaper fix for me to hookup a plate frame with built in LED light to shine on the plate but would like to know if anyone out there has done it and if it is possible for me to get a license plate frame installed to keep the plate lit up to avoid getting pulled over.
The wiring on the kits I have seen can be hooked into the running lights according to the description of the products I have seen listed and is universal 12V, have seen many options for these but has anyone out there tried this and is it possible with the G37 and if it is possible is 12V the type I should be attempting to tap into running lights? Thanks for any help...

Anyone know if I could take a LED light strip and connect it to a running light for the tail lights? If you do, which wire would I want to splice into in the trunk? Just trying to figure out how to get lighting to shine on the license plate since my license plate bulb assembly is all missing on the G37 going to have to customize something to save on expenses to fix the issue.

You can use any 12V light source as long as it is not too bright, or dim (ask me how I know), and is weather proof.
Wiring would be easy as your existing wires should be there, just cut. Either way you would tap into the tail lamp harness for the rear parking lights as shown in the factory manual:
You could always try searching local junkyards, eBay, or even LKQOnline to see about used parts. I say this because a new bracket, Infiniti p/n: 96220-JK05A, will run from $65 and up NOT including the light assemblies. I found a set of lights on eBay for less than $20. Perhaps you could fabricate a makeshift bracket that would work?
Also, in case you have not done so already, here is a link to the Factory Shop Manual (FSM) which I recommend you download and keep for reference. For this you will need section EXL, but I would download the whole manual. It comes in handy!
Hope some of this helps...

Thanks for responding. Yes, I had noticed just the bracket piece that holds the light bulbs is ridiculously priced. I was thinking I would need a all new wiring harness and then the bulbs themselves as well as the bracket. Now I did see an interesting chrome plate frame with a built in LED that shines down on the plate.
If I end up going that route I would probably save abunch of cash just need to tap into the running wires but just want to be certain it's okay to do such a thing and not cause other issues or electrical problems and make things worse.

Thanks again. Decided to hunt down original equipment vs. LED plate or light bolts but had to buy the lamp bracket new. With your wiring diagrams I have completed the task and license plate bulbs installed by me, saving me money.
