Mine did that dealer changed under warranty something got jammed up in the hinge that made it stick open and would almost have to snap it to close then it would not stay closed
Us mt guys have a rectangular crevis roughly 5"x2.5" (maybe 3"). Not sure how any cup is going to fit in there. I use it for pens, paper, usb adapters, etc.
