Rear Wheel Well Panel

Hello Gentlemen,

I have searched but couldn't find anything on this topic. Does any one know what that little panel in front of the rear wheel wheel is for? Also is there a way to remove it, I am getting some gunk in the crevices and it is also getting a little"yellow" on my midnight white coupe. Do you think buffing it would bring it back to the color of the rest of the car?

I actually did a little more digging and it looks like I am referring to the protective film that is just in front of the rear wheel well. I thought it was a panel but I looked at it a little better and its just a clear protective film that has discolored and has junk on the edges. I guess i can just peel them off if I want. Anyone know where to buy new ones?

Mine is the same way. I think you'll need to visit a dealer's parts department. I checked discountinfinitiparts.com but I don't see it.

You could probably just get some clear 3m vinyl and trace around the old ones after you take them off to replace it

Good point, I'll probably just go this route

What site did you use? Or is that from an FSM?

http://www-jp-carparts.com

Typically I use either jp-carparts.com (JDM parts site) or parts.infinitiusa.com to get part numbers. Then I use discountinfinitiparts.com to get the best price. It just seems that jp-carparts' website is a little easier to use than infiniti's site.

I'm sure a tint shop would give you a reasonable quote to replace that film. Anyone go that route?

Mine are yellowing, too, which sucks in that my car is white. So this has been weighing on my mind for a while.

With age, they soften and tend to attract dirt into the now porous material and this adds to the yellowing effect. To counter, I take some soap and a small brush and clean and this gets then back to about 65% of new. I still haven't figured out how to remove the dark edges. Do they serve a purpose? May look better removed.

The more you look at that, the more you're going to want to remove them. It was a lot worse on a white car.

What's that vertical line down the door edge? Did you have edge guards at some point, and they damaged the paint, or is that more clear vinyl?

The car came with the edge guards. Maybe it was a dealer installed option? Those have held up ok.

The dealer installs things like that.

If they're still on the doors in that pic, then yes they've held up pretty good. The chip guard vinyl, not so much.
