Hey guys, I just bought my 2009 G37 coupe in June, I recently noticed the rear spoiler light has become lose. It does not have any screws keeping it tight, they were using some type of adhesive -__- i bought the screws 10 x 3/4" since I looked up the size for that type of light and it will not tighten, I am not sure what to do about this, I bought an extended warranty so maybe I will see what the dealership says about it but was wondering if anyone had the same issue or if they tried a different size screw, The screw has nothing to really tighten into when I try to get it in there. Do you know if that's an OEM spoiler? There's two reasons why I ask:

1. I'm not sure about the '09, but on my '08 the screws are behind the light, so you have to take the spoiler off the car to take that light out. I was wanting to replace my clear light strip with a red one, but don't want to take the spoiler off the car to do so. Plus I can't seem to find a replacement light strip that is red and not clear.

2. You have the third brake light in your rear window also. I don't think you get the third brake light in your rear window if the car came with a rear spoiler with the brake light there.

It sounds like someone else already had your problem with the light, which is why it was glued in. You might try getting some high strength 3M double-sided tape to keep it in. Not sure different screws are going to make any difference.

 

Yeah, I think the dealership was telling me the spoiler was added on, I dig the look with it. I might have to get some of that double sided stuff, I guess i'll see if the dealership wants to rip me off if anything. Thanks so much for the reply.

 

Does the light work? If it does I would just use some clear silicone around the part of the spoiler the light inserts into. Then put the light in place and use some painters tape to hold it in place, if you do it before going to bed you should be good to go in the morning. I would avoid pulling the spoiler off if possible.

 

It works, i think the heat and bad rain here finally got the adhesive to fail. Its wire and if I back up at night I can see the red light in the camera reflect. Where should I look for all this stuff? Im sure i cna get the double sided tape at walmart or something,

 

I would not use double sided tape, use clear exterior silicone. You can get a small tube at Hope Depot or Lowes. pull the light out a bit put a bead of silicone around the light cavity on the spoiler, push the light back in place. Then use painters tape (the blue stuff at Home Depot/Lowes) to hold it in place. Let it it sit overnight, pull the tape off carefully and away you go plus the silicone will seal it from water leaking in.

Make sure you clean the spoiler and light surfaces, rubbing alcohol works good.

You can't. Part is not available. I can not even find where a replacement was EVER available. Only way would be to find a used spoiler and salvage the light strip from that piece. Or, buy a new spoiler (if you can find one).
