Getting rid of 3rd brake light

Is there a Diy or a solution to getting rid of my third brake light.... like the rear shelf? i've held up getting a rear spoiler for so long because i feel its going to look awful with a an unlit light above the LED's in the spoiler. any help would be great!

You can buy the oem rear shelf without the light and replace it.... You can also disconnect the brake light and use the spoiler break light and if you have tint is really not that noticeable... Thats what I did...

I had an OEM spoiler installed and both lights function (spoiler and rear window). I don't know if they did anything special at the shop that installed it. I just told them to install the spoiler and they did the rest without even asking.

Both lights shouldn't be on. In order to get the spoiler lights to work, the installer should've unplugged the power going into the shelf light. Then he should've tapped into it with the supplied wire and connect that to the spoiler. At least that's how it is with the OEM spoiler. If you don't want to take it back to your shop, go in the the trunk lining under the two rear shelf speakers and there should be a brown connector. Unplug that and you should disconnect power to the rear shelf brake light.

To the OP, in order to get rid of the original third brake light, you've gotta buy the whole rear shelf. See the following:Infiniti G37 Rear Shelf w/o Third Brake Lamp

It's a bit pricey which is why I've passed on it so far. I can spend that $200+ elsewhere. Plus it doesn't have the "BOSE" logo on the speaker grilles (assuming you care if you have the Bose system). And I believe your tint is pretty dark right (if I remember correctly from previous pics I've seen of your G)? If so, you'll barely notice it. I have 35% and feel like it's fine, for now at least.

I don't mind having both lights active. It hasn't been a problem.

^^I don't see it as being a problem - just think that it's repetitive. It's just not as clean of a look to me. Same reason I debadged the "INFINITI"...alot cleaner look and not so busy if that makes any sense.

Here's the shelf.
Infiniti G37 Rear Shelf w/o Third Brake Lamp
There are DIYs on how to remove them, takes 10 minutes.

I did mine at the dealers service drive.
Gave the dealer mine, he gave me a new one, under the new car deal, as my spoiler was POI port option installed.

I added the spoiler myself so I have the third brake light but it's disconnected. Then I had the windows tinted and I made sure they didn't cut out a space for the shelf brake light. You really don't notice it or give it a second look. Others have posted that a new rear shelf is pretty costly.

You notice the difference when you dont have that hump. The rear view visibility is much better.
