Project Completed: Folding Side View Mirrors

So I got bored and started a new project: first G37 Coupe with folding mirrors.

The mirrors are from 2010 G37 convertible. They fit the coupe perfectly. The mirror covers are also perfect swap with the coupe's.

I already mounted the new mirrors to my car, just waiting for the new switch to come in to do the wiring.

Some people asked for part numbers, so here they are:
Mirror RH: 96301-1NJ1A
Mirror LH: 96302-1NJ1A
Mirror Switch: 25570-1BB1A

Update:

The mirror switch is identical between the folding and nonfolding models, with the exception of the fold button. Picture side by side:

It seems that Infiniti thought about including folding mirrors in the Coupe but later changed their mind. I'll get more into that later.

Fitting the switch basically involves dremeling a rectangle from the window switch bezel:

Now here's the most difficult part, wiring. To my pleasant surprise, the car is mostly prewired for foldable mirrors. This is also why I said Infiniti probably intended on having foldable mirrors but changed their minds at the last minute. The wires from the mirror switch to the driver door mirror is already there. The wire inside the passenger door to the mirror is already present. The only thing missing is the cross over wire from the driver's door to the passenger door, which runs through the car body. I'll have updates on this later.

The only thing that needed work was this violet wire. It is supposed to supply 12volt to the mirror switch, but it was not connected. I soldered a 12volt source from the window control switch to this wire:

After supplying 12v to the violet wire, the driver mirror is folding. I'll need to find some pins that will connect the harness between the driver and passenger doors.

And this project is a wrap.

I ordered some door wire pins and it took 2 months to get here. That's why this project took so long.

So like I said earlier, the doors are prewired for folding mirrors. However, there is no cross over wire from the driver door to the passenger door. So I purchased 4 pins and created a 2 wire harness to connect the two sides.

Then I installed an auto fold module from ebay. The mirrors fold with door lock and unfolds when ignition is turned on.

Normally, it would only fold manually when you press the switch. However, I'm also installing a module that would unfolds the mirror when car is turned on and folds when the doors are locked.

Great MOD! I also was looking at Korea's G37... I think all their cars come with folding mirrors. Searching Korea's ebay like websites to find a kit. They have it but not too sure if it will work with our G.... Good luck with the project and update us!
