It only took me almost a year to do it and about 6 visits to the dealer.

Well weather's getting cold again and this problem has re-appeared for me!!!

mine's been doing this a lot lately due to the high heat. problem is that dealer left the windows open for a whole month, in dusty desert conditions. now whenever the car is parked for a while and hot, it does this squeaking sound whenever there's any flex in the chassis (turning, bumps...).

it is extremely loud and annoying, but i'm 100% sure my dealer will do nothing about it (they don't even know what a TSB or ITB is).

 

I fixed the windshield popping noise by spraying silicone lube (bought from home depot for like 2 dollars a spraycan) directly along the OUTSIDE windshield where the glass meets the black liner beneath the windshield wipers. My popping noise would come at every single slight bump over like 25mph, on roads and especially freeways. Now even in hot/cold weather the sound is gone. Was driving me crazy too. Multiple dealers said the mechanics test drove it and "couldn't replicate it" although I suspect they just couldn't figure out how to fix it as it was super obvious after few mins in car. I also had the dealership replace the gauge cluster unit too under warranty because I think I heard a separate sound coming from there as well behind the entire unit. Now I never hear the sound. Every few months I respray the silicone lube preemptively but I do not think I need to anymore after the initial spraying. You can also try telling the dealership specifically to take out the windshield and clean/lube the WINDSHIELD COWL like other have said. I think the silicone lube has the same effect, hopefully now you have the info to fix it yourself or through dealer!

I wonder if this problem is only on the sunroof equiped cars? Which, of course, most of us had to take whether we wanted it or not. Since the headliner is dropped to clear the sunroof mechanism their is more shifting and flexing of the headliner.

I have found that if I push up hard on the headliner forward of the sunroof that the sounds are reduced in frequency. When they come back again I just repeat this routine.

 

My dealer fixed this about 4 months ago. Here is what was on the workorder:

Creaking noise from the front end - Customer believes from bottom of windshield area - Outside cowling

Verified complaint and found the cowl finisher contacting windshield
Removed cowl finisher and applied felt tape to contact points (underside of cowl). OK now

This completley fixed my popping noise issues. I think others have had this same fix done

 

As Frank Zappa has said, "Wowie Zowie". I sprayed some silicone lube along the length of the cowl where it rests on the windshield, and it completely eliminated the creaking and clicking sounds that would come from sharp bumps. It was very easy to precisely spray the lube using the small tube attached to the can of silicone.

It now remains to be seen just how long this solution will last. If it only has to be done 2 or 3 times a year then that's what I'll do. If it's more than that, I guess I'll go with the permanent felt tape cure.

What is felt made from, is it a synthetic material such as nylon which would make it heat and moisture resistant?

 

Not too sure what it is made from. I can see a little bit of it if I lift the cowl. It's a black double sided tape type of felt. Held up OK so far from heat and rain.

 

I was out for a long drive today, some of it on some pretty bumpy roads, and their were no clicking or popping sounds at all. It's been a week since using the silicone spray on the windshield cowl and it has worked wonders. I now feel like I'm driving a high end car.

 

Say, can someone post the details of the silicone lubricant he used? I'm not finding a silicone lubricant spray at Home Depot...

 

I bought my can of silicone at the dealership. Probably paid twice the price but what's a couple of bucks when it comes to blaming Infiniti should something go wrong.

i felt i was in the minority with this issue, but i can see now that im not. my dealer wanted to take out my whole dash to fix the prob. no thanks.

i bought some automotive weather stripping from advance auto, the kind that goes in your door jamb area near your windows, and stuffed the thick end of that all along the area inside my car where the windshield meets the dash using a flat head screw driver.

The noise is 75% better, will try the silicone lube on the outside cowl to see if it helps. i want to feel like im driving a high end car again! like someone above mentioned.

 

OK, I got the $3 silicone spray lubricant from Home Depot, sprayed the entire plastic piece at the outside base of my windshield, and rubbed it in with a rag. This is day 1, but no more squeak so far (unreliable data since it doesn't squeak every day, but this is promising!). There is an odor to it, inside the car (hope that doesn't last long) but not terrible.

 

It's been getting colder here now and the popping noise has come back. I thought the tape fixed it
