Moonroof Tilt Problem

I've recently noticed that when I "tilt" the moonroof...there is sort of a...I don't know how to explain..."grrrrt" sound. I happened to catch it as I was taking it for my first oil change. Dealer said because I don't use it the moonroof often...it gets stuck. Thus, the motor sort of struggles to "tilt". He was convinced that I need to use the tilt feature often to keep it from happening again.

Well...it's there again...each and every time I tilt. Note that there are no unusual sounds when fully opening/closing the moonroof or tilting it down......only on the way up.

Anyone else had this problem? Appreciate any feedback.

No, I haven't had any problems so far, and I use the moon roof. All I hear is the sound of it going up but no grrrrt sound.

A brand new moon roof shouldn't need lube. Pretty **** poor answer by the dealership if you ask me. Since you say you first noticed this when you were on your way to get your first oil change, I'm assuming your car still "smells" like a new car. I don't think it should be sticking either on a new car. Maybe after 6 mos of no use, the rubber gasket between the glass and the surrounding frame might stick a little but not enough to bind the motor. I'd keep an eye on that and don't hesitate to get the dealer to fix it. Remember, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".

i had this too, and noticed it as i drove off from the lot right after purchase... it went away by my second oil change, 3750 miles. Keep an eye on it.

I haven't had any noises like that from mine yet. But on my previous generation G there was a small insignificant grunt on the way up when tilting.

Thanks for the feeback. Still make the sound. I'll probably wait a bit and give it a couple more weeks. It's not a big deal but I agree....a new car with 3800 miles shouldn't have that kind of problem.
