Actually it is not a hard job; it just takes a little time, but it is important to make sure that things are covered etc. I had an 06 coupe for about 3 months and got rid of it because of the seat. I tried fixing it, but the design would not allow anything that would make me comfortable, but I bought a new sedan and coupe and this fix works great.

Just to address all the comments about people needing to lose weight, I am 5' 10" and weigh 170, but I have a nerve problem in my back and the bolsters put enough pressure to bother my leg tremendously.

I drove my new g37s home last night. I think I made a big mistake. My back is killing me. The thighs were ok, but the back bolsters are killing me. I of course did not notice this on the 3 test drives, but now I really regret getting this car. I won't be able to take trips. It's funny, the mustang I sold had the most comfortable seats ever for me, and I didn't get a BMW because I did not like the seats. Oh the irony...

Nick L, thanks very much for your post re seat modification. I love the car... hate the driver seat. Had the opportunity to sit in the passenger seat while my partner drove and I could not believe the difference in comfort. I will be doing this mod.

Shumby... I am in the same area as you. Did you find a shop that can do this?

Very interesting. I'm not fat at all, 5'11'' and 150 lbs and I think the sport driver seat is uncomfortable indeed, right in the thigh area because of those blasted hard bolsters.
Thank you for this thread. I'm fairly handy and am going to take a look at doing this myself.

Took the time to do this mod myself this weekend. Well worth the effort, and seems to offer much more give in the seat. The acid test will be this tuesday when I drive 250 miles to New Jersey.
It is fairly straight forward to do the job but not sure I'd recommend it to a novice. The three connectors for the electrical wires underneath the seat take some patience to figure out how to disconnect them. And it takes some patience to unhook the leather seat cover from the side of the seat without tearing the leather stitching. Reassembly is not too difficult, just more patience to avoid snapping the plastic parts. A standard Dremel tool was good enough to cut the 3/8 in. steel bar that the air bladder rests against. So another great mod, courtesy of this site. And $250 saved.

Can anyone recommend a shop in NJ (or tri-state area) to get this mode done?

I wonder if it's possible to install a seat from a non sport version in the same color? I suppose a new seat would be very expensive because of the air bag, but if a seat could be gotten from a wreck the price would be much more reasonable. I have the bolsters at their lowest setting, but I could use a bit more room, although, I'm not suffering.

So for the people who have done this mod...How are you liking the seats long term now?

Stupid questions...1 & 2...3

1...Are there two of these braces that need to be cut out and ground down...one on the outside and one on the inside of the seat...or just the one on the outside?

2...I thought the passenger seat had the same setup as the driver's seat...no? IE, do the passenger seats not have these steel braces?

3...I have a 2010 G Sedan S...but I am under the impression they are all the same as the Coupe Seats??

Great write up...I came from an 05 Coupe Sport where I could not have loved the seats any more than I did...now I HATE these seats b/c of the constant pressure on my left leg in the thigh area...and I am 5'11/185lbs...so to each his/her own on comfort, but for those of us that hate the digging seats...this sounds very hopeful...I would just like to hear more about it.
Thanks.
