Airbags with aftermarket seats (alternative to $80 box)

I know many people are using that $80 airbag360 thing to make sure the passenger airbags are always enabled with aftermarket seats. Some people are transferring things over. I don't want to transfer anything over, and I would prefer not to pay $80 for that bypass if possible.

I saw a video that seemed to indicate you could just measure the resistance with pressure on the pad and use a resistor, just like for the cluster light workaround. It wasn't 100% clear to me, so I reached out to an old forum member who is always a great help (sadly, he's sold his G). He said I could do this.

I wanted to see if anyone else has gone down this route since it doesn't seem like it's being promoted when I look through threads. Are there any drawbacks or issues with just measuring resistance from the seat side when there is pressure on the pressure pad, then adding this resistor to the car side, so that the car thinks that there is someone in the seat at all times? If there's no issue with that, how would I go about finding out the watts?

This would be a great way to save $80 and not have some clunky box under the seat.

Why quibble over $80 for a proven product that functions as it is supposed to? They did all the measurements and calculations.

Not judging, I get wanting to save a buck, but is $80 really worth the risk to life or limb? Just my 10¢...

Good luck either way.

When I first saw the item I thought it was probably really simple and they were probably just marking it up a lot. I don't like the idea of paying a lot for something that is not worth anywhere near that much. But then I found on GitHub something similar for Miata and it looked more complex so I thought I'd be okay with paying $80 for this.

But then I was asking questions about which resistor is correct for the light on the cluster because there's so much disagreement on this online. And that conversation resulted in my friend volunteering information about this bypass. So now I thought again maybe I should just do it this way instead of buying the $80 unit.
