Modifying Sport seats?

Some of us (myself included) have commented that the Sport seats are a little tight in the thigh area. It seems to affect those of us with a bit too much 'junk in da trunk', but I think it's simply because the seats are the same ones used in the Japanese home market, which are designed to fit the average Japanese male - who at about 5'6" and 145 lbs, is smaller than most of us.

Has anyone thought about potential solutions? In looking at the seat I'm thinking about either having the seat modified, either by taking some of the stuffing out of the thigh bolster area or by having a strip of material (maybe 1 in or so on each side) sewn into the seat to widen it a bit, or possibly swapping the seat bottom section for one from a G35 Sedan (which is wider enough to fit more comfortably).

Anyone have any ideas?

swap in a cadillac bench seat! =0)..lol

nah seriously take it to a upholstery shop and have them maybe put in a softer material on the thigh bolsters...this way it looks OEM, but once you sit in it, it will collapse but still give you that hold in feeling with more comfort...thats jsut my .02
good luck with it..and def keep us posted on what your outcome is!!!

Thanks for the idea, NJlakeshoreG. Right now I'm thinking of two modifications to the seat which should make a little more room, but keep the stock appearance and not require any re-stiching. First, NJlakeshoreG's idea of replacing the padding with a less dense material. Second, to bend outward the seat frame sections that are positioning the thigh bolsters. They are almost upright now, if they were bent outward at perhaps a 45 deg angle, that would open up about 2 in of room. Both of these mods should be possible by just taking off the seat cover, no stiching should be needed.

I'll keep you posted...

If I can just get down to 200 I'll be money. Car might move a bit faster too.

if you really love the stock seat then yes go ahead and do the modifications to make them comfortable for you. I would agree with most and say just go aftermarket but i know a lot of people dont find any after market seats comfortable at all. In that instance i say fix the oem one

To prove my ultimate love for the G35 I went from 224 lbs to 183!!! My jeans are size 31 now and now I wish my sits were a little tighter. I’ve been this way for the past year now.

True story...

I agree witht he recent comments....there is nothing wrong with the car seats. do you have the get special/mod chairs at work, or sit in the handicap seat on Metro/Subway. you should try to loose the weight and I'm sure plenty of people would have suggestions in the off topic section...heck..someone might be a professional nutritionist

I have a skinny butt, however my rib cage is too wide for the upper seatback.
I do recall seeing on some auto ad that they had electically operated seat wings, seat and back, which I think would be dynamite. I would pay for something like that. 6'3" 185lbs.
