Ipod interface with just aux ports?
Ipod interface with just aux ports?
Okay after about an hour of searching I cant find the answer to my question. I dont know very much about car audio so this may be a dumb question. I have a 2009 g37x, i think its a base model. Anyways in the console there are just the three aux/in ports yellow, white and red. Nothing else. Does this mean my car does not have the ipod interface? Or is there something that i can buy that will allow me to have the ipod playlists and song titles to appear on the dash screen. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks in advance. Again sorry if this is a dumb question.

if you notice just above the 3 ports, there is a black covering. that outlet is for the special ipod adapter cable (Genuine 2009 2012 Infiniti FX35 FX50 iPod iPhone Auxiliary Audio Connector Cable | eBay)
this cable allows you to access the ipod's playlists via dashboard/steering wheel controls.
however, that cable does NOT charge the ipod (whoever designed this needs to be beaten with a stick).
conversely, you could get another ipod adapter (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Composite-Video-AV-Cable-to-TV-RCA-USB-Charger-iPad-2-3-iPhone-4-4S-iPod-Touch-/151088676875?pt=US_Tablet_AV_Cables_Adapters&hash=item232d96400b), and get a usb car charger adapter, and you'll be able to play your ipod via AUX source while charging the ipod (I don't think it will drain your car's battery when the engine is off, as the ipod does not indicate it is charging then while plugged in) - but you won't be able to access the ipod's playlists via the dashboard/steering wheel. if that is no big deal to you, also keep in mind that I think the ipod will continue to play once you kill the engine or switch the source - unlike the "official" adapter.
someone claimed that they built an adapter that will enable playback via dashboard/steering wheel while charging, but I have not heard back from them yet.
I think the only way to achieve this is to create some sort of an ipod splicer cord.
other folks have claimed that a irevolt or scoshe adapter works, but those failed for me.
That cable will charge older iPods. I bought a first gen iPod touch off craigslist for $50, and leave it the car all the time. Before that, I used an early iPod Nano, which also charged without issue.
If you get the stock infiniti cable that goes in that port, you can than hook up any apple device including iPhone and play off the navi and system, you can also get a adapter for it made by Scosche for $15-20 that will also charge the device you have plugged in. You can also use a iPhone 5 or newer apple devices on the system and scroll through playlists and full control if you get a 30 pin to 8 pin lightning adapter. Only get the Apple original one and get the one that is longer with a cable, not the short adapter.
You can also just get a 3.5 mm headphone jack to Audio RCA plugs (white and red) and use that as a Aux for any device with a headphone jack, just goto Aux mode in your car. And than you can charge the phone or device normally via car charger

I've tried a 4G/5G iPod Nano, 2G iPod Touch, 5G iPod Video... none of those charged.
I'm guessing a 2G iPod Nano will?
thanks!
I bought a 2G iPod Nano (8GB) off ebay for $30, connected it via the "B" cable, and it charges as well as works perfectly.
thanks to all for suggestions/help.
update - finally got it to work. the key was the combination of the "B" cable adapter and a 2G iPod Nano. the "A" cable adapter does NOT charge. I also had ZERO success with the scosche/irevolt adpaters.

with NAV. I read elsewhere that you need to NAV to display iPod interface (as well as digital clock).
