Speakers on the Dash?

I noticed that on top of the dash there is what looks like a speaker, but it doesn't play any sounds? What exactly is the purpose of it?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's the "drivers stage" speaker. Go to audio settings and you should be able to turn it on.

^^Makes it seem as if sound is more around the driver by adding this speaker.

Honestly, I don't hear anything coming out of it when I turned it on in audio settings. Is it suppose to be loud enough to notice it from other speakers. Also if it's broken will it be replaced under warranty? 2010 Infiniti g37x @ 32k miles.

It's a center channel speaker.

Control for it is in the audio menu settings. It can be turned on and off there.

It is utilized for the voice guidance of the navigation commands.

Do you have the Bose system? not sure if the non-bose cars have just a cover over that area or not.

actually this is an interesting thread..

even if the driver stage is on or off, I cannot feel anything coming from this central speaker..
so as I noticed all of us is having same issue.. so It cannot be a defect or a malfunction.. but we have to know what's the purpose from it

^^Yep^^

From what I have read, this is the used for the system voice and phone voice. Drivers audio setting uses balance and delay to "move" the phonic sweet spot.

I'm surprised nobody has replied with this.

The speaker in the dash is a 3" squawker that is part of the Bose system. It is counted as one of the 10 speakers.

The reason you aren't hearing much from it is that there are two other speakers that match it in size and output in the doors, drowning it out for sure.

On the subject of the driver's audio stage: This setting, when enabled mixes the outputs and settings of all the speakers to give the ultimate balanced, full, and clear sound specifically to the driver.

This is my first post on the site, hopefully it clears some things up.

^^awesome post. Thanks. Is it 3" or 3.5"? I've seen both sizes referenced.

Also anyone know correct size of coupe speakers in the rear side panels near the back passenger seats? Same thing - I've seen 3" and 3.5". Is it that those are the same size as the door mids?
