You need some wiring experience. If you get the pigtails from the 2010 navi, it's a matter of reconfiguring the wires. The fitment of the units are exactly the same. The gps, radio antenna, control panel can be reused. You do need to get a new screen and new a/v unit.

Modme, like one of the other members mentioned before, would you be able to put together a general DIY for this? Since you have already done the install, I know you won't have pictures however a list ofinstructions including what parts to get and what tools to use etc... would be a great starting point for people interested.

THanks in advance.

Hey Modme and others contemplating the same thing,

I will also be taking on this project for my non-nav 2012 g25. I found a 2011 g37s nav unit complete with screen, faceplates/buttons, av unit etc. My g25 has integrated phone bluetooth and rear camera. Will adding this unit also allow me to watch DVDs and stream audio via bluetooth? Also, since my car doesn't have the gps antenna, do you know where it runs to/from? Any info would be really appreciative and if you could answer some questions about it when I finally get the parts in. Also, I tried the links for the wiring diagrams and I can't figure out where you find them. I'd be happy to try and do a DIY if I can get some assistance from everyone in the community with this project. Also, does the unit have to get flashed from the dealership? Thanks in advance and they'll be a lot more questions to follow. Hopefully we can all work together and get a DIY up for the g community.

I was able to hook up the USB. I had the usb cable pigtail, to which i simply connected a female USB port.
Gotcha, I think I have all the pigtails except for 2...Do you remember of these were used? (see image) I think the one of the left is for USB. Maybe the right wasn't used? Also do you remember if any of the connectors were plug in play? Thanks for all your help!

The two you circled are for USB, only one of them is used. There is one connector that is the same between 2010 and 2008. However, I remember at least 1 wire in that connector has to be spliced from another harness.

In the diy section i have instructions on how to do this for 2010-2012. The only difference would be the wiring schematics for a 2008 would need to be used as a staring point instead of non nav 2010

Is upgrading the 2008 unit to the 2010 unit preferred over just buying the GROM kit?

Just came across your thread. Looking to upgrade my 2008 G37 factory nav to 2010 or 2011. Is it difficult and could a professional stereo shop do it?

What are you trying to accomplish? Even if you swapped to the newer OEM system, 2015 is the absolute "newest" you could go and even then that tech is at least 8 years old... You still won't have that Apple CarPlay or Android Auto nonsense. In essence, you would not be gaining anything useful to justify the cost.

You may want to look into aftermarket offerings from https://gromaudio.com/, https://www.niftycity.shop/, or any of the "Tesla-style" things.

If you truly want to swap to a newer OEM, you will have to do it yourself. Most professional stereo shops will not do this job for you. You may want to look at this thread/ product from member @OWC . They should have all that you need to make it a plug-and-play swap.
