Exclamation Radio Preset Tip

I took my G37 coupe in today for 18 month service, including tire rotation (yes, we can do that on non-sport models). They also took care of the airbag sensor recall. They had to reprogram the system which necessitated disconnecting the battery. Wow, I was surprised how many items I had to reset afterward: all radio presets, clock, seat/outside mirror/wheel synchronization memory, both trip odometers and some LCD settings. I should have a least written down all the radio presets beforehand but, of course like most of us, I didn’t think of it.

They had to re-program the system? Why is this..? For the airbag? The only way everything would have reset is if the battery was disconnected, otherwise it should of stayed programmed from an ECU reset/HDD change etc.. Never heard of this happening before.

You shouldn't have to...

The service tech is supposed to record all your radio presets anytime a battery disconnect is done and then reprogram them for you as part of their service (as per the service manual).

The dealership should hear from you about that not being done! Kind of crappy service, if you ask me.

Well, I’m not an expert here, but he said in this recall regimen they first look if the passenger seat sensor has to be replaced and/or if they need to reprogram. In my case they said the sensor is OK but reprogramming was necessary. That seemed to require that the battery be disconnected because all those mentioned items needed to be reset when I picked up the car.

I guess you’re right in that that would be exceptional service. But I hardly expected them to record all 18 radio presets and reset the clock. As for the seat memory functions, they have no way of knowing what are my two personal settings, nor can they put back the two trip odometer readings even if they recorded them.
