Question Does tire width matter on AWD?

running OEM 225 45 r19 currently, planning to get 265 45 r18 instead ( for all 4)
Diameter: +1.5%
Width: +16.9%
sidewall: +17.5%
circum: +1.5%
Would the much wider tires makes damage to the car?
Also I brought a set of 9.5J front and 10.5J rear rims from my friend, if I run square on tires but different rim size, would that be any damage to the car?
Appreciate your helping !

The width doesn't matter for the AWD you can run what you can fit under the fenders.... the bigger issue is the increase in diameter of 1.5% which will throw off your speedo but 1.5% isn't too bad

Also running staggered rim sizes doesn't matter if the circumference and diameter is the same. That being said, you have proposed a full 1 inch difference in rim widths which and 265s aren't really very wide for a 10.5 rim will will cause a stretch on the wider rim. if you run the same width tires the 265s on the wider rim will be stretched quite a bit and may cause it to have a smaller circumference than the not stretched tire on the narrower rim. that circumference difference may cause an issue with the AWD. Also the rear tires will wear faster than the fronts and exacerbate this difference.

A better combo would be 245 front and 285 rears for 9.5 and 10.5 rims

Do wider tires help or hurt in the snow?

Thinner 'cut' through snow better. If you aren't running Akebonos, the stock 17's make for a great winter set-up.

depends on how wide. Too wide and you’ll be plowing.
