Lightbulb Powder Coat Stock Wheels and Center Bore Size

Hey guys I recently got my wheels powdered coated in KingSport Grey and when I got my car back I noticed that my car vibrates heavily around 70-80mph.

So my first thought is I needed to get my wheels rebalanced, So i took it to discount tire and they told me that one of my wheels are bent. I removed the so said "bent" wheel and looked around and couldn't find anything wrong with them. The other recommendation was that my H&R hubcentric spacers are causing the issue (but I had them on the same wheels and I never had vibration at high speeds).

My question is could the powder coat cause my center bore to be out of the stock specs and causing my car to vibrate at high speeds? If so does anyone know a place to take it in Houston to get the proper center bore? The reason why i ask is because I have to force my stock wheels to fit onto the h&r spacer. By force i mean i have to use the lug nuts in order so the wheel can sit flush with the spacer.

I highly doubt the powdercoat would throw a wheel out of balance. I think it should be rebalanced personally.

My first question is when they were powdercoated, were the wheel weights removed? And were the wheels balanced when reinstalled after powdercoating?

Yes when I got the wheels powder coated, they sandblasted everything.

I had the wheels rebalanced twice and they said one of my wheels are bent. And that the spacer might be an issue.

If you had to force your spacers on it's possible that they're not laying completely flat, or maybe under torque the mounting surface became slightly warped or if any powdercoat got onto the wheel mounting flange it could be creating an uneven surface. Doesn't take much to cause high speed vibrations

That is exactly what im thinking, I had the spacers on with my stock wheels before powder coating and my car ran perfectly fine. But now after powder coating i get vibrations. I think the wheels are not sitting on the spacer evenly which is causing the vibration. When i put on the wheels onto the spacer i can get it on but its not sitting flush. So i thought if i tighten all the lug nuts down to 100ft/lb than the wheels will sit on the spacer evenly.

I might have to get the Center Bore of the wheels into specs which is 66.1mm. But if anyone else has an recommendations im listening.

What I would do is remove the spacers and just use some light sand paper or scotchbrite pad and really scrub the inside of the wheel bore and also the wheel mounting flange until is bright again. Also wouldn't hurt to light buff the inner spacer bore and spacer mounting surfaces. If you really cranked them down (and 100ft.lbs would qualify) you may have distorted the mating surfaces a bit but hopefully that wasn't enough force to cause any issues.

Not to sound like a complete noob, but what grit is considered light sandpaper? i was thinking of 1500grit, but is that enough to cut through the powder coat? maybe 800 grit would be easier and faster?

Something around 600 grit should get the job done, you can always start a little coarser and just move to higher grit if you feel it's cutting t0o quick. Basically you just want to remove any paint and give it a final soft sand just to "shine it up".

m0nkey, car looking good! Where in Houston did you get your wheels done? I'm also in Houston. I considered getting mine painted the same color as the IPL wheels, not the chrome ones though. I thought about taking mine to a place called Wheelcrafters.
