Noob Questions About Tires

Hey All,

I need to get a new set of tires for my 2009 G37S Coupe (currently using the 19" stock rims). I am totally lost in choosing what's best for my car in terms of performance/looks. I'm assuming the tires that were on the car from the dealership are nothing special.

What I currently have: Bridgestone Potenza
Front: 225/45R19 92W
Rear: 245/40R19 94W

I was wondering if anyone would be give any suggests for a size of tire that would look good, be usable with my stock 19" rims and potentially new 19" rims in the future. Thanks!

I common +0 size is 245/40/19 and 275/35/19. If you're looking for summer performance tires Michelin Pilot Super Sports are some of the absolute best available performance wise.

The OEM Bridgestone aren't bad, they get very noisy when worn.

Those tire sizes will give a nice fit and get more tire on the road, also those stock 19" wheels are pretty good. I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of them, if so, you'll have no trouble finding buyers on the site for coupe 19s

Thanks for the info guys. My rear tires are really worn down but my fronts are fine. I will stick with the OEM 19" wheels for now. I would have no issues with any fitting if I purchased the Michelin Pilot Super Sports 245/40/19 correct?

Also, I live in a pretty cold place in the winter. We probably get 4 months of nice weather here, with the rest being winter. Would it be best for me to get a good pair of all season tires, or spend the extra money on separate summer and winter tires?

I live in a warm year round climate so I can't tell you how that PSS will perform in marginally cold weather but they are definitely not for the cold. You could swap summer and winter sets or get an all season tire, I don't know which you'd prefer.

Yes 245/40/19 will definitely fit your front OEM wheels and the 275/35/19 will fit your rear wheels.

I've decided to go with either the Ventus V12 summer tires or Continental ExtremeContact DW Blackwall. What do you guys think?

245/40/19 in the front and 275/35/19 in the rear. Just to clarify, i should have no issues using the OEM 19" wheels correct?

Those sizes are fine for your OEM 19s, both those tires get decent reviews, the Michelins are a notch up from them however. Might check out the Toyo T1s, nice tire and some good prices here, ask for Andrew & mention myG37.com for best pricing

I've had the Hankooks and they're only OK, they can't carry the PSS's jock strap. Not even close. Don't know about the Contis. The Toyo T1 that were mentioned are also very good, better than the Hankooks.

Hi guys, kind of reviving an old thread here. I'm looking to get a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport A/S 3 (245/40/19 front, 275/35/19 rear on my stock sport rims).

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the whole speed rating letters (W vs Y for example). And the difference between these for example. Does it matter which one I get?

Speed and load ratings explained.

And for the same of avoiding confusion, it's a Pilot Sport A/S 3, not to be confused with the Pilot Super Sport which is a completely different animal (all season vs max performance summer tire).
