Important tire question

So I went in to get an estimate for aftermarket rims on my 2010 G37xS and the guy asked me "Back tires come staggered on the sport right?" It kinda caught me off guard, cause I never heard anything like that (on the stock sedan, that is). So I told him no, and he insisted that his computer says they come staggered, stock. I told him he could check for himself if he wanted, he was convinced I didn't know what I was talking about, so he went out and sure enough, not staggered. So I thought maybe he was just confused or even had the wrong car up on his computer. Then I'm looking at pictures on here and even though its hard to tell, do the stock sport sedan's come with a staggered rear tire set up? (meaning the rear tire are bigger than front, of course). I haven't had very good luck with my dealership and I'm getting a little concerned, I have almost 34K miles on my car and if I got screwed on this too...Lets just say, I'll be a little more than upset. Someone please tell me the 37xS doesn't come staggered and I'm just being paranoid. haha. Thanks guys!

The regular RWD sport sedan (g37s) comes staggered, as does the sport coupe.

Also, awd sport coupe has more sporty options than the awd sport sedan even though both are called g37xs.

My first reaction was... c'mon, OP, you should know these things. But then I remembered explaining it to my dealership's Service Manager, who assumed all Sedans are square. He was genuinely shocked when I told him otherwise, and even asked a Tech for confirmation.

In his defense, so very few RWD-only Sport Sedans are sold, it's not surprising they wouldn't know the difference. It doesn't excuse the ignorance, but it does explain it.

As a general observation, most dealerships will charge you a hefty premium on tires. It's not a rule, per se, just a typical cash-cow for dealerships. So if you're looking to avoid getting "screwed" on tires, it's a safe practice to avoid new car dealerships.

Your best approach would be to invest the time educating yourself on tires... brands, models, reviews, etc. TireRack.com is an awesome resource, and a pretty fair place for pricing. You can still go to your dealership for mounting and balancing, and you can even have the tires shipped there directly. A job is a job, they will be happy to do the work.
