Hankook Ventus V12 tire problems...

I brought my car in to get the tires flipped and rotated today. While the tires were off (staggered 20x9 and 20x10.5), they told me that the tires were bad b/c it was starting to separate in the inside? I didn't exactly understand why this was occurring, but when I felt the area he pointed out, I could definitely tell that it was softer and looks like it expanded compared to the rest of the tire. Again, this is in the inside.

He asked if I had ever run them under inflated, however, I try to check my tire pressure at least every 2 weeks and have them pumped up 36 psi.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it possible that the tire is defective? When I had them mounted about 6 months ago, the guy was mounting the tires incorrectly, I own Vossen 085 wheels which are reverse mount, and he was trying to mount them on the front side. Wheels have never been curbed and are not bent.

Tire size - 275/30/20 with roughly 10k on them.

Suspension Set up - lowered BC Coilovers, Hotchkis sway bars, SPC Front & Rear camber kits

My tire guy told me the Hankook Ventus V12's are on the softer side and you should keep these tires at a higher PSI especially if it's a slight stretch (on the 20x10.5). Not sure if that is the cause of your bubble, but the tire could also just be defective.

Maybe you just have excessive uneven wear from the alignment being off. What are your camber and toe settings?

I don't have the print out with me currently at work, however, I had my alignment done at Sal's and they were definitely in spec. front and rear. Although it has been maybe 4 months since the alignment so they could be out of spec now. I plan to get it checked again this week.

I've been reading through the treads here regarding the Hankooks, but not may people say how long they would typically last for those running 20's

Jeremy - I've seen you say good things about the Michelin Super Sports, I'm debating on whether to spend the extra money for them, they are rated at 30k and the Michelin Sport A/S are rated at 45k. But will they really last longer then the Hankook. I don't drive my car very hard often so I'm more interested in longer lasting tires vs. performance.

Thanks for your help!

Take it back to Sal and have him check it. It sounds like the toe is off. How long they last depends on a lot of factors but I'd think at least about 15k or so on the low end.

Yes I love the Michelin PSS. I had the same Hankooks as you have before. They are not bad. But compared to the PSS it's no contest. Yes it's worth the extra money. I just had a set put on my wife's G sedan last week. Got a good price from a local enthusiast who manages a tire shop, plus a $70 rebate from Michelin plus a $100 rebate from Discount Tire. Unfortunately I think both of them expired at the beginning of September.

Post your alignment spec and photos of the wear on the tires.

Here's the printout from my alignment couple months ago. Does it make a difference that it shows the vehicle as non-sport when I do have the sport model? Let me know what you think...

I would check toe also. If that's off, the tire is being dragged down the road and can excessively wear the centers.

Okay just got another alignment today. Sal said he was going to add a little more camber to get the toe better in the rear. Thanks again for your help!
