TPMS Compatibility and Syncing Questions

I've done some searching on the forums for answers, and have found some conflicting information, so I thought it was best to start a new thread and get current info...

I'm looking into getting a second set of wheels/tires for summer for my 2009 G37x Coupe.

I'd like to not have to worry about swapping TPMS each time I swap the wheels.

The questions:

Can the car have more than one set of TPMS sensors synced to it?

Will newer sensors from a 2010+ G37 work with my 2009 G37x?

How does the syncing work? Can I do it myself, or does it have to be done at a tire shop/dealer?

yes, i believe so

no, i don't believe so. there was a change made in late-2010.

yes, i believe you can do it yourself. there is a guide on here somewhere but a tire dealer should be able to do it cheaper than a dealer as well.

All Infiniti/Nissan cars will only remember 4 sensors. When you sync new ones, the old ones are forgotten.

lol, more conflicting information.

Assuming the maximum of 4 synced sensors is correct, are there sensors that can clone the IDs of other sensors so that wheels can be swapped without needing to resync?

There is no conflicting information. There are four slots in the BCM memory for remembering sensor ID, one for each wheel:

ID REGST FL
ID REGST FR
ID REGST RR
ID REGST RL

Each slot will only remember 1 sensor ID. As soon as you program a new one, the old one is replaced. Simple as that.

No, there are no sensors that can clone IDs.

ID reprogramming is DIY job.

The conflict was between what you and rks said about more than one set of sensors programmed in. Your info appears to be definitive. The reprogramming thread is very useful. I'm glad that it doesn't require a dealer visit to swap tires...

I stand corrected. There is a product that copy OEM sensor ID into a new sensor. However, I dont think its worth the money or trouble:

Only four sensors can be registered at one time. Every time another set comes into play they have to be programmed in.

So to confirm, if I bought a set of 2012 G37 coupe 18" wheels for my 2009 G37 sedan, the TPMS sensors in the 2012 wheels/tires wouldn't work on my 2009?

Now I'm really glad I didn't buy those wheels & tires!

I thought it specifically mentions that the TPMS sensors for G37s manufactured after March 2010 have to have newer receivers for them to be functional.
