TPMS related: For people who switch out wheels in winter

Regarding the TPMS's, I plan on using my stock ones for the news wheels but then using my stock wheels in the winter.

Do you guys:
1. Buy new TPMS's so you have two pairs?
2. Switch out the TPMS's when you put the stockies back on in the winter
3. Other?

If #2, doesn't that become a pain doing it twice a year and expensive? Trying to figure if I should just bite the bullet and leave the stock TPMS's on and buy new ones for the aftermarket wheels.

Thanks

Cheaper in the end to buy a second set rather than paying to have them swapped/mount and balance every year.

I bought a separate set of winter wheels/tires and lived with the warning light for 4 months. I was considering buying a new set but didn't deem it necessary.

BTW I think the TPMS sensors changed sometime in 2010 so you have to watch for compatibility when buying.

I can't live with dummy lights on. Plus, if I really do have a flat or tire low on air, I would like to know and not drive around not knowing unless I visually check my wheels before I enter the car every time.

Newb question: Do you get the extra TPMS's at the dealer or do the tire places carry them?

I agree with Neal @ TireRack. To have them switched each winter and have the wheels balanced will cost you more then the new TPMS units cost over time. I really don't want to look at the light always on either if I don't buy new ones.

Jim, when I was at NTB getting my wheels installed I noticed the price for new sensors was $100 each. Same at Infiniti. NTB was able to reuse the seniors that came with my coupe and reset the TPMS onboard computer w/o a problem. Saved over $400 right there. But, unlike you, I don't have to change mine in winter season.

Good luck! Patti

Thanks Patti. Discount Tire is $63/sensor so I will most likely go with them. $100? Geez, that's crazy. The dealer is even more.
