TPMS Swap require unmount/rebalance?

If I want to swap my TPMS from my stock oem wheels to some new aftermarket wheels does the old wheel/tire need to be unmounted, and then remounted/balanced? or can they just deflate the tires and yank out the TPMS?

Same question for installing on the new set of aftermarkets

I would say yes, they need to be rebalanced. By nature of the TPMS removal->you are changing the weight distribution of the wheel assembly. Not sure if it can be done without removal of the tire.

I see, It seems ppl like to use their stock tpms for their aftermarkets. I'm not sure which is better though to buy a used set of tpms or reuse the old( won't require reprogramming )

Yup, tire will need to come off the wheel to take out the sensors, then remounted/balanced. Don't forget to buy a new gasket kit so they don't leak after moving them to the new wheels. Once the original gaskets are compressed they will leak if not replaced. We sell the kits if interested.

Oh, I didn't know about the gasket kit requirement, what do those do exactly and is this something most installers know about but just don't mention when they swap tpms?

It will look similar to the attached photo. New gaskets, core, sleeve and cap. We sell them for $3 ea + shipping. Will need qty 4/one per wheel.

Would this also be true when simply replacing the tires on OEM rims?

No. No need to remove TPMS just to put new tires on.

Some installers will want to replace the core and rubber seal while the tire is off to ensure they dont leak over time. Rebuild kits are cheap piece of mind while everything is already apart.
