Do low profile tires (55 sidewall) give trouble in Michigan?

Anybody here own a G37 in Michigan. The roads here are pretty rough. I was wondering if the wheels hold up okay with such low profiles? Are you finding you need to spend more money in replacing tires/wheels or anything like that? Or is there no difference from having a higher profile tire (like 60 or 65)?

I don't think it matters where in the U.S. the pothole is.. if it's big enough and you hit it fast enough, you'll mess up your rim -- just be careful, these rims are not bulletproof.

um 55 profile tires are not low profile, more like monster truck tires. all of us with sport package are running 40/45 series and we are fine.

I got 25 series rears (305/25/20) w/ no problems. Just pay attention to the road when you're driving. Don't go driving fast over speed bumps and avoid potholes. Just more of them to look out for here in Michigan. What area you from?

I have a 2010 G37S and it have 50/45...just wonder will it soften the ride if I put 55/50 on? I'm asking because it's an option when i change out the OE tires...thanks for the help.

Difference in ride quality is not worth the potential fitment issues with a larger diameter and possibility of tossing of traction control. If you want better ride minus size the wheel/tire combo. Less wheel more tire will improve ride at the exchange of steering response.

OEM 19" rims (225/45/19 fronts + 245/40/19 rears) ... no problems in Metro Detroit area roads I have driven. As others have mentioned, keep an eye on the road and look for craters of potholes that exist with the fantastic Michigan weather provides.

My only problem from potholes is one time in my old car (205/50/17 Nokian WR tire) -- I got a bubble in the sidewall on I-94 (to the airport) from a crater of a pothole that I somehow overlooked. $150 wiser from that experience (thankfully rim was not damaged).
