Tire Help

I know winter is still a bit away, but I like to have things planned out a little bit and I need some help.

If you install winter tires with tpms can some tire places reset the car so the TPMS will work properly or does it have to be done by the dealer? I live kind of far away from the dealer.

If I buy winter tires without the tpms, I realize the tire pressure warnings will come on, but in the spring if I switch back to the regular tires, do I have to reset anything for the tpms to start working properly again?

Thanks!

i bought a winter tire setup from tire rack without tpms. so in winter time i have the light. then in the spring, i put the stock rims on and you do not need to reset the tpms. once it's set, there is no need to reset it unless it stops working for some reason.

any good tire/wheel shop should be able to calibrate it for you. if not, you have to go to the dealer. set it once and you are good to go.

Actually I do now, I just called one of my local tire dealers, a local chain and they said they don't carry and rims that will fit? I thought that was pretty odd since tire rack seems to have a lot to choose from. Do you remember what model of wheel you ordered from them?

don't do any reset, let the warning light stay on, after I put my OEM rims back on, the car register and the light goes off.

Agreed, no initilazation needed if using the oem sensors. Once you put them back on in the spring all will be fine.

I got my Blizzaks from tire rack...get the 18's with a wheel package. They bolt right on no problem. Just let the TPMS light on for the winter...after a while you don't notice it...too expensive to get the sensors just for the winter. Just check your pressure every few weeks and you'll be fine...but remember don't drive those Blizzaks in warm weather...you'll wear 'em down quick
