Map light LED

I'm trying to find an LED replacement for the Map light bulb in the Y51 M37. It has a bayonette style bulb in there now that says "A12V8W" on it. I found a set of LEDs on ebay and they guy said that they would work, but they don't. Has anyone ran into this before? Does anyone know if they are the same map lights as the G37? I was able to replace all the other bulbs, but this map light is kicking my butt.

Contact Nick C. at DiodeDynamics, they can get anything you need, if it matches the G37, it'll be easy, if not, they can order anything for you.

No luck. they said that its a "rare" bulb and they don't carry them. I love how a 2011 has an impossible to find bulb. I've been scouring the internet for an LED version of this. When I find the right one I will let everyone know.

Why are you messing with it anyhow? It's already a LED ... you don't want it any brighter than stock and please don't tell us you want to go blue or red :-(

Nope.. not an LED at all man. Its an old incandescent yellowish bulb. According to your signature, you have a 2012... is it an LED in the 2012's? Because its DEFINITELY not an LED in the 2011.

I figured a bulb would be easier to find than rewiring than whole silly light, but I'm not beyond that.

Hey gatchek, I also have a 2011 M37. I have successfully replaced all of the stock bulbs with LEDs EXCEPT for the map lights.

Most of the lights throughout the car (trunk, license plate, door lights, etc.) are 194's. However, the correct bulbs that fit the map lights are BA9s bulbs, such as this one:

Amazon.com: 2pcs BA9 BA9s 5-SMD 12V Light LED bulbs 64113 1895 57 - White: Automotive Amazon.com: 2pcs BA9 BA9s 5-SMD 12V Light LED bulbs 64113 1895 57 - White: Automotive

These bulbs fit perfectly, the only issue is that the polarity is wrong. I've tried two different BA9s bulbs and I tested both to make sure they worked and they did. However, when fitting them into the bracket for the map lights, they won't turn on. My theory is that positive and negative terminals on the bulb are the opposite of the ones found in the M37 map light bracket.

If you happen to find a set of bulbs that work properly please let me know! If not I think I might have to do some re-wiring/custom work to switch the bulbs out.

Its reverse polarity. As you can see in the picture, I put the bulb "backwards" essentially, and reversed the polarity.. and it lit up like a xmas tree. Now.... to find a reverse polarity Ba9......

OK, so I just bought the 4th set down on this link:

BA9S BAX9S Bayoent

2pcs BAX9S H6W 64132 9 Power SMD LED bulbs (Xenon White) Canbus Error Free

I ordered the reverse polarity/polarity free/no polarity version. Only $10 for 2. They seemed pretty bright, so they should work out well. As always, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Sorry, guys ... . I was reading this wrong. I thought you were talking about the small/tiny ambient light that shines on the dash. I have changed the Map light LEDS with LED's from VLED with no problem. Let me see if I can find the ones I used.

VLED doesn't seem to have them anymore .... here are the blue versions (please don't install blue). I bought 6K blubs (5K wasn't available) and I would prefer them to be a bit brighter.

Maybe you could use this base kit (which includes BA9) in conjuction with a seperate bulb array.

The above link to the LED worked great!! Bottom line, you need a BA9S no polarity or reverse polarity LED. The LED that I bought (BAX9S) had nubs at 150 degrees as apposed to 180 degrees, but it still works. You can buy them anywhere... just make sure they are reverse polarity. I bought the 9-LED bulb, but you can also get the adapter mentioned above and then get a 9 or 12 LED panel. I think the 9 LED bulb is nice, but a panel would be just as nice and bright.

Do you feel these are just as bright or brighter than the stock bulbs? My VLED ones are nice and white but not very bright, I might give these ones a test drive since they don't cost much.

Definitely brighter, but my interior also doesn't look like a Monday night football game either. As you can tell from the picture, the white takes up a lot more of the lens cover than the stock bulb. The ones I installed were a 9 LED bulb.... I would say its about 50% brighter than stock. Check the website that I got them from, you might be able to compare the lumens to that of your VLEDs, this way you don't have to experiment with your money.
