2011-2012 M Fog & Driving Light Replacement
2011-2012 M Fog & Driving Light Replacement
Has anyone replaced their stock bulbs for Fog Lights and/or Driving (aka running, parking) lights with LED's? I'd like to do it and was wondering if it's a big of a PIA as it is on the G Coupe.
I want to this to mine. What LEd H-8 bulbs you got and will they be bright to be somewhat functional rather than aesthetic only?
I was exploring placing HID fogs but dont know how hard is to get back there.
Thanks

I ordered these ... they might appear brighter because they will be whiter but not sure how bright & functional they will be.

Once they are in stock, I'm getting these for the driving/running/parking (whatever you call them) lights. There is plenty of room in the housing.

Well I did the lights last night, the fogs are pretty easy, just remove the protective cowling from inside the wheel well, enough to pull it back (turn the wheel extreme outward) and the fogs are right there. Do the drivers side first so you can see what's going on because the passenger side has the washer fluid resevior. For that side you have to come in from under and work a little blind. The LED's I used (posted above) look great, they are bright. You can't really tell if they are better/worse that stock bulbs because you can't have the fogs on just be themselves. They are bright and they look Sooooooo much better than stock.
The parking lights are another story. They are easy to get to from the top, just pull a little rubber gasket material away and the socket is right there. But .... there is so much sheet metal, etc in the way it was extremely hard to even be able to twist the socket to pull it out. Once it was loose I saw the socket had a 1.5" extension to the actual bulb socket making it pretty long and hard to remove. I got it out and used these bulbs I had laying around.

These are shorter than what I was planning on ordering (see above) and a good thing as I doubt I could get the bulbs and socket back in with the extra length. What a royal PIA to get them out and back in with the total lack of room. I have small hands and still got pretty scrapped up. I got them in and while the stocks were pretty useless so are these. They are white and have a much better color but you can really only see them in darkness without the headlights on. That was pretty much the case for stock too but I was a little disappointed they were not brighter. I think it's the shape of the reflector as I've used these bulbs before and they look pretty good. All in all fogs look great, parking better than stock but disappointed I didn't get better reflection in the housing.
I'll post some pictures later.

The ones I used are not available any more but if you look at V-LED's site (not hard, google them, go to site, select H8 on the left) this will be out real soon and look to be really nice.
5K WHITE 6 LED DRL/FOG LIGHT BULBS H8 | 1 PAIR B/O
UPDATE: I ordered some of these in a H11 size for another car. I'll report how they look compared to the other V-LED LED's I have installed. If good, I'll be getting some for the M. Even though the web site doesn't report they are available yet, I got a shipped notice.
