Installing headers is a VERY VERY involved process. I would not recommend it as a DIY project.

We have done a few of these installations at our shop recently and each one took a little over 5 hours. It is not a horrible installation to do, but you have to take off quite a few parts to get to the headers. I think we lost count of all the bolts and screws that we took off. There are also a few tricks with the AC line you have to do. The average cost of install from all the local shops seems to be a bit under $400 but it certainly saves you a ton of headaches to have it done professionally. Just my two cents!

I typically do all my own installs, but doing headers definitely requires the right tools. I didn't realize how difficult it was the first time around, and had a cheap local import shop (with minimal experience on the VQ's) do the install. The result was a header leak from one side, and missing/loose bolts on the other. That was a waste of $300. Knowing something was terribly wrong, I ended up going to Scott Performance, and they redid this whole job for $200, as they knew how royally screwed I was the first time around.

Jeff is right, expect to pay for $400, and be sure that the installer you take it to has full experience with the VQ as you don't want to pay to have this done twice!

Hi Eugene,

I looked at your amsoil bypass filter/pre-oiler install guide, and I noticed that the jack stands you're using have the flat head we need for our cars (http://www.g-owners.com/article_imag...InjuringIt.jpg). I was wondering what brand they were and where you got them. Also, how do you go about raising a stock, non-lowered coupe with the jack?

A little off topic but anyone locally happen to have a 2-TON Aluminum Racing Jack made by LARIN? They were sold at Costco for a while.

It doesn't lift past halfway. I called them. I did all the procedures for troubleshooting and it still does the same thing. I think I got a defective one. It worked for a couple of months but now it doesn't. I've had it for a couple of months. I don't have the box so I can't return it, otherwise I would return or exchange it.

That's why I need to find someone that has the same jack, so I could see if they still have the box. If I had the box, I could exchange it then give that person the new box when I get the replacement.

From my experience, Costco will usually take the item back even if you don't have a box.. I would give them a call and tell them your situation. I think I may have the same jack so I'll check this weekend, however, if you can't return it you should be able to do an RMA if it's still under warranty.

so i just took my car to serramonte, and they wanna charge me 500 bucks for the front brake job. WTF!

i've been reading the thread and i need a good recomendation on my alternative choices... i mean, should i take it to like firestone/pepboys?
