Overheating at idle
I have a 2009 x and if I’m sitting somewhere for a few minutes I start overheating but with throttle it comes back down, I topped up my reservoir but didn’t know how to check the radiator. If I give the car a little bit of throttle it will come back down, what could be the issue and how can I fix it?

How to check coolant level in radiator?
With engine cold, open cap, look down. Level should be right at the top. Top off as needed. Depending how low it is, you probably have air pockets, so bleeding will be necessary too.

If the coolant level is low, be sure to check ALL of your hoses/ hose clamps for signs of leaking coolant- ESPECIALLY the rear heater hose connections as they are known to cause leaks (heater hose).

If you address your coolant and it’s still overheating, have your catalytic converters checked. If they’re blocked up it can produce a lot of heat “backing up” into your engine causing overheating issues. I had this issue on a 2003 Yukon XL 2500 and the catalytic converters were blocked up.
Good luck to you!
