I just purchased a 2011 G37 Journey Coupe on Friday. I had originally looked at the BMW 328i, but was discouraged by all of my motorhead friends' reports on the car's maintenance and reliability issues. After some research I found the G37 and fell in love with it. After looking around town I found one with 74,000 miles that looked to be in pristine condition. After test driving it I went back to buy it the next day (hard not to after driving it lol). The car is a huge step up from the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer I was driving before. I now feel like I am piloting a spaceship, especially at night time. I love the instruments, nav, interior and exterior of this car. Not to mention she really gets up and goes. My car has an aftermarket K&N Typhoon SRI, which to me is nice because that is how I had my previous coupes and it sounds good. Maintenance on the filter is easy on SRI, although I know it doesn't do much if anything for performance.
The car also came with a pre-insalled JL 10TW3-D4 shallow mount subwoofer. Sounds great although does not provide tremendous bass (is a shallow mount afterall).
So far I am very happy with my purchase and feel this is a life changing event. Hopefully its a motivator to keep working hard (gotta afford premium fuel and parts, maintenance, etc... somehow).
Anyhow I'm happy to have found this forum and just wanted to share my recently found joy with you all. Thanks!!
Welcome. You have a nice coupe there. Start saving for your repair contingency fund. The 3.7 up through 2011 is saddled with a poorly spec'ed gasket that seals internal oil passages. When that gasket fails, you're looking at two grand, minimum. Otherwise, expect typical random failure of stuff like window motors, clogged sun roof drains, door window seals, O2 sensors, VVEL modules, etc, etc, etc. Make sure your alignment is good, it's easy to have too much toe-in and that eats tires.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely start saving for contingencies. Thankfully I have an old beater SUV as a backup in case anything goes wrong as well. I was unaware of the gasket issue so I will specifically keep an eye on that. Very helpful advice! There is a lot of info scattered about this forum... I will continue reading through and get all the knowledge I can on this car.
