Cool 2013 G37 Journey? Potential new owner

Hi Guys! I hope everyone is well. I am in the market for a new car and I might be purchasing a pre-owned 2013 G37 Journey Sedan.

I wanted to quickly ask if there has been any major issue/flaw that I should be aware about before purchasing this car. As well if anyone can offer insight on the cost of typical repairs/parts.

I am moving over from an accord, which was a nightmare. But the maintenance and parts were nothing crazy. I am mainly looking to find out what I would be getting myself into with the G37, as it's my main option for my next car.

Thank you guys in advance!

Welcome aboard...potentially!

The G is a great car in my opinion. Nice blend of sport, power and luxury. Gas mileage isn't super great as I average 20-23 mpg with mixed driving and burning premium fuel.

I don't believe there to be any MAJOR mechanical issues with the 2013 model. Pre-2012 models seem to have a rear timing gasket issue that has been resolved in 2012+ models.

If you end up with the 2013 a few easy maintenance items should be completed to get you started. Throttle body cleaning, rear differential fluid change, air filters, oil change.

You may also want to make sure your car has the latest transmission update if equipped with a 7AT. It really seems to smooth out operation.

I, along with many others have experienced their analog clock back light to stop working. Dealer covered mine under warranty.

Good luck on the search!

Thank you for the warm welcome! Hopefully things turn out great and I'll have it before the weekend ends. Besides asking for the latest transmission update, is there anything else I should check or inspect beforehand?

Thank you again for the tips.

Hey good luck with the sale! The G37s I'm looking at are sitting on 29-32K at the 18,000-19,000 price point. So you're at a good point.

Not sure throttle body cleaning does anything on the newer G37 with the VVEL engine. On a regular engine the throttle bodies are important and as they open and close based on your gas pedal input. And a clean throttle body helps the car run smoothly at idle and lower rpms. However with the VVEL engine, as soon as you start the car, the throttle bodies are opened FULLY and stay opened - everything from there is regulated by the VVEL system.

I don't know! But, from personal experience. If your G starts up and then dies right away. Clean your throttle body and it will most likely fix it. It fixed mine and i'm sure many others.
