Hey look everyone- a newbie with a 6spd sedan in WI

Hola! So I spent the better part of 3 months trying to find a clean G37S sedan 6spd. with low mileage. Finally found a clean '13 with roughly 18,000 miles in Moonlight white.

I have been around/worked on/raced cars at track days most of my life. I used to be big into Subarus and am still one of the first members on nasioc. I had a '98 2.5RS, '02 WRX, '09 STI, '11 370Z, '05 M3, and '14 Evo.

I must be getting old because the G37 seats are way easier to get into than the Recaros in my Evo and the ride is much smoother... for now.

I just installed a Stillen cat back exhaust and Z1 stainless brake lines. So far so good. So I have a stock exhaust if anyone needs parts. (Not sure if I can post in the for sale section yet since I am new)

Here are some pics of it the day I picked it up bone stock. (I promise I will post more pics as it becomes more interesting with mods)

Nice S Sedan, and nice group of cars in your past. Look forward to what you've got planned. Set up a build thread when you get the time

I come from a long line of performance cars but like many men in my position kiddos made me venture over to this sedan. Let me tell you and as you already may know, the G is a kickass car for the money. Also, nice job on the manual as it was one of the deciding factors in buying this exact car. My only complaint, that damn hiss when changing out the cats but it is what it is. Welcome and I look forward to the progress of your car.

Will do. Thanks! I did not even see that section yet. Joining new forums is like opening Christmas presents as a kid for us car guys. By the way, nice Seinfeld Avitar!

You nailed it right on the head about kids. My wife and I are planning for kids so yes, this is definitely a better option than the skull crushing ride of the Evo. My old man lower back pain is also a lot happier riding in the G37. Great car so far.

What cats do you have and what hiss are you referring to? I have a set of Z1 Motorsports cats waiting to go on. Maybe the Stillen exhaust will cover up any hissing noise from the cats?

Generally any time you change out the cats on the G and pair them with a free flowing exhaust you are going to get hiss on decel between 1.5 and 2.5k. Some people love it, don't mind, or hate it. Different combos either lesson or exacerbate the problem. I happened to pick the loudest combo ever (FI cats with 12" resonated catback) and while I don't care for it, I don't hate it enough to go through the trouble of taking it off.

I thought the exhaust would cover up any hissing, but I think in all honesty it will be the vibration from the Z1 trans mount that takes care of that. I am trying to get used to it.

Anyone going to Road America today for the Vintage Races? I am going to do the Touring event at noon to see if I can find any other obvious upgrade needs to the car before I do a real track day. The G will have white Bergstrom plates with the big blue "B" on them. Come say "hi" if you are there today.
