Need Tranny advice

How does the 7AT compare to the 6MT?.......does the auto behave like a DSG? quick shifts? Holds gears well? Or does it behave like old automatics that destroy the driving experience?

I am a true enthusiast I drive stick but my wife doesn't. She wants a truck, It would be nice to be able to swap vechicles in the event I need to use the truck but I m not willing to compromise my driving experience if the 7AT is not worthy.

Thank you for the info

Welcome to the site, I think you MUST drive one for yourself and make the decision, and let the wife drive it too. Only then can you have an honest assessment IMO.

If you really want a manual you'll probably regret getting an auto.

My wife cant drive MT. Sometimes it's inconvenient. But I'd rather have occasional inconvenience and have to borrow a car or truck or even pay $20 and rent a truck from home depot than not have my 6MT

^^What's her hang up in learning how to drive it? She's seen you drive/shift it countless times. I can understand inclines being intimidating at first.

She wants to be perfect. Her baseline is her Dad (manual for 40+ years) and me (20 years), and she isn't that good, so she doesn't want to try.

It's a learning curve. Everyone kinda sucks at first.

It's definitely one of those skills you need to practice to perfect. The clutch in the G is not the most forgiving. In fact, probably the worst to learn to drive a mt with. A small honda or older toyota would be best. Doubt any rental fleets have manuals on hand. Maybe find a fiat dealer that's willing to rent out one of their 500's for a day. Those are very forgiving and easy to shift.

She actually never tried on the G, but has driven a Subaru Legacy GT and my old LT1 F-body. The issue is she wants to drive MT like she has driven it for 20 years right off the bat. At least she doesn't complain that I want MT
