dying to be a G owner, but what packages!? help
Hi everyone
I'm a recent graduate looking to make my first real car purchase and it will more than likely be a 2010 G37, i'm just a little torn between the models and packages so i'm hoping i can get some input.
I'd prefer to drive an automatic G but the 6MT isn't completely ruled out. I was looking at the following options:
G37 Coupe Sport 6mt with the following specs/feats:
moonlight white
either interior (not sure which one i'm liking more yet)
navi package
total (according to infinitiusa) = $43125
or
G37 Coupe Journey with the following specs/feats:
moonlight white
still indecisive on the interior
premium package
sport package
navigation package
total = $44975
I like that 7 speed automatic transmission with the manual shift mode and downshift rev matching but i'm finding it hard to make this decision.
I don't want this to turn into the old manual vs. auto argument but i think i'd feel more comfortable driving the auto day to day to and from work. I'm not very experienced in manual but i dont want that to be the only reason i dont choose it
Sorry for making my first post so long but I've gotten really excited reading the other posts in these forums the past couple weeks and seeing all the awesome mods

Not to start out with 6mt vs auto, but I would go with the 6mt. This car really was made to be matted with a six speed manual. That's why Infiniti only offers the G with a 6MT in comparison to all of their other cars. If you are looking to pick up a daily driver then the 7 speed is the way to go.
As far as interior goes and I'll be up front with you on this. I sell a lot of G's and between the Graphite and Stone interior, the Graphite will not show dirt like the Stone will. One of the problems that most customers find after test driving a G with Stone interior is that there is actually glare of the dashboard that appears in the glass. If it is a bright day outside then test drive one and you'll see what I mean. The Graphite does not do this. As for packages that sounds like a good setup.

Scotty hit the nail on the head between 6mt and 7at.
I have had both stone and graphite. I will be honest that my last car was stone, and I settled for it because I couldn't get graphite with white exterior. I will tell you though, I loved that interior. I swapped out black floormats, and the inside had a great two-tone sort of look. I keep my car really clean...so the dirt wasn't ever really an issue. Stayed very cool, and I never had any of the reflection issues talked about above.
I have graphite now, and I love it as much as I knew I would. The stone was my first light interior, so it felt comfortable getting back into black leather. I love that the stitching truly shows on the sport model, its just a nice added bonus.
So...if I had the choice I would definitley go graphite. But, just wanted to throw out there that the stone is nice.

OP, I love driving the G with a manual transmission. I would never want an automatic in this car. But that's my opinion.
I suggest that you're probably having doubts about driving a 6MT for a reason. And, keep in mind the fact that the G does not have the easiest clutch. If you have doubts about it now, before purchasing, I would say that you should go with the automatic. You do not want to be sitting in traffic the first day of driving your 6MT to work, banging your head on the steering wheel, regretting your decision. At that point, you will not be any more in love with the idea of driving a stick than you are right now, as you debate. Knowing ahead of time that driving a stick can be a pain, I would venture to say that you probably won't change your mind post-purchase. But who knows?

Either way, it's a win. Congratulations and good luck with decision...
As far as packages. I think you shuld get everything possible except technology package. Nav, you get good enought technology, and sports with sports bumber and wheels, bigger breaks. I never seen G without a Primium package so. lol
And make sure you add "Illuminated kickplates" and "Rear deck spoilers". (I think those are options that people ignore when they first buy, and realize later that "oh i wish I paid some extra and have those)
Trust me, all those option first seem like wasting couple 1000,s but for a long run, you will get more out of it.

i'm enjoying this blog already
thanks everybody
I particularly like the votes for the graphite interior and i think i'll definitely be going with that over the stone, so that's decided.
I'll go by the dealership and check out a model with the illuminated kickplates and rear deck spoiler, looks pretty cool on the site and in another thread here in the forums.
One thing that has me a little confused due to my lack of experience around G's, is what makes the car a G37S;
Does having any G37 model with the Sport package make it a G37S? with the emblem, suspension, brakes and wheels like in the G37 Coupe Sport 6mt?
it's probably a stupid question but like i said, it has me confused =X
From the looks of it in your signature TheIvoryG, you have that second option in my original post (the 7AT journey with the sport, prem & nav) plus your upgrades! how do you like it?

sport=S. I got it for the seats alone as the X suspension is not upgraded. I would suggest driving a manual in your commute before even considering one. You may find it a hassle if you are stuck in heavy traffic for a lengthy commute.

I think Sport, Prem, and Nav are all key in this car. If you don't get them, you will be ultimately dissapointed later I think.
Between 7AT and 6MT it is just personal preference I think. Either one you will be happy with...

i think the 7at is great but if this wasnt our daily family driver, i might consider a 6speed for the fun factor. if you want the 6sp you might want to learn to drive stick before you buy it or you will be stalling it out driving off the dealer lot
Get the 6 speed sport with premium package. I've had an 05 g35 6mt, and currently driving the 08 m35s.. I sure do miss the 6speed. Going to pick up my g37s 6mt sedan this week too! so in conclusion, Get it fully loaded.
