New owner of a G37 Sport-6MT!

Hello All!

I recently purchased a 2008 G37 Sport-6MT with all the bells and whistle with the exception of NAV... it's vibrant red color with black leather interior. This is truly my first 'nice' car and I truly love it! I have a great time driving this car, although, it's been 3-weeks since I purchased it and I am still waiting for the 17mpg... so far, I've been avg 15.6mpg per the on-board computer stat. However, I am thinking about replacing the factory air filter (filter only) with a K&N air filter to improve my gas mileage. BTW, I am using BP premium gasoline... please share your thoughts.

Roberto :-)

...thanks for the reply!

sorry to ask, what is Tech and 4WAS packages? I assume the 4WAS is the all-wheel-steering? As far as the air filters, I am not sure if I am going to mod my car.

it was assumed that you got these options because you said everything but NAV, you are correct with your all wheel steering assumption, TECH includes 2 saftey features, both of which IMO should be standard, and a high tech cruse control thats only useful when there is little to no traffic, not worth it IMO.

congrats on the purchase

You said with all the bells and whistles on the car... but without the Tech, 4WAS, and Navi your missing alot of the bells ...lol its closer to a base model.... I wouldnt waste money right now of replacing filters tho... wait till they get dirty... you gas mileage will increase with time.. and thats free...lol

...thanks for the explanation. BTW, I do have the Tech features...

I agree with you about waiting to replace the air filters. Also, what do you use for gas? BP? Just curious...

K&N Air Filter 33-2399 Feedback

Hello All!

I wanted to give everyone an update on my new G37S 6MT...

I purchased the K&N air filter (33-2399) for my car and drove under city and highway conditions for 2 weeks. However, I was very disappointed and below you'll find my observations compared to the OEM air filter supplied with the vehicle.

1) gas mileage did not improve (currently @ 16.4 mpg; combined city & highway driving conditions) - BTW, I do drive aggressive :-)
2) exhaust sound changed, lost the 'purr' sound and it sounds more like a high-pitched 'meow'
3) installed the K&N air filters as-is since they come pre-oiled already
4) K&N air filters were slightly larger than the OEM and was a very tight/snug fit in the plastic housing. At a glance, it seemed as a tight-seal which gives the illusion for improved performance... this was not the case from my experience.
5) after 1 week of driving, cleaned the K&N air filters and applied the aerosol oil as directed and re-installed and drove for 1 week with not change
6) both scenarios for week 1 & 2, the car performance was not the same, I noticed it during accelerations at red lights and highway speeds. Overall, my car did not respond nor perform when I purchased the car.

Furthermore, I re-installed the factory OEM air filters and noticed an immediate difference in the performance and acceleration response; in short, I got my car performance back.

Lastly, I do not recommend purchasing the K&N air filter #33-2399 since it demonstrated poor overall performance. This air filter seemed to have created more air restriction which caused poor performance.

I would love to hear from other car owners who have purchased these air filters.

Best,
Rob

P.S.
I only use BP premium gasoline and changed over to Mobil One Full Synthetic oil... which is great for aggressive driving compared to conventional oil. I made the transition at 1500mi and I currently have 3500mi... I personally noticed a difference while driving-very smooth.
