New BLACK on BLACK 6MT

I just got my 6MT G37 yesterday. It is black on black, spoiler. This car is intense. The interior is like a penthouse for god sake. I am still new to manual transmissions so I am taking it easy for now.

Any times for breaking it in? When is the break in point for this car?

Welcome and congratulations. How long the break in period is will vary depending who you ask but I was told 1,200 miles. I am pretty sure if you dont redline line it or use cruise control for the first 1,000 you will be fine.

Welcome! Best color IMO.

The manufacturers suggested break in is to keep speed under 70 MPH and RPM under 4K and avoid keeping it at a constant speed for prolonged periods for the first 1200 miles. Many opinions here will differ, but I followed that and have had no problems in 19K miles so far. Enjoy your new baby!

How does the car feel at 19k miles? Is there a noticeable difference after the break in? Is there car any more of a joy to ride than when you got it? I hope not.

thanks

Still an absolute joy to drive every day. I'm about to need tires, but that's to be expected form the OE Bridgestones with the good grip and crappy treadwear. I get slightly better mileage than when brand new.

Welcome. I bought mine with the MT after 30 years of auto transmissions, and I love it. A little rusty at first. Take it slow and stay out of trouble, and as you get more and more comfortable you will naturally make things move faster. If you feel you need some pointers, find someone who can drive an MT smoothly, ie. no over-reving, no clutch jerking, no rattles when shifitng. There is a technique to it.

I followed the break-in just as it says in the owner's manual and just hit 1200 miles. The engine runs perfect, burns no oil, very, very, smooth. Have fun, that's what it's all about.

This is basicaly my first manual car. I am still learning but now I feel comfortable enough to drive around town and on the highways. I still get pissed of when I encounter a stop sign or a red light. I am sure it will all smoothen out though.

Hey, don't get pissed, a MT is always more fun when you get it down. It's a man and his machine thing. I'll suggest a few things if you haven't tried it: With the engine off, push the clutch pedel up and down and notice the change in tension, about half way up. That's where the clutch grabs. Learn that spot with the feel of your foot and leg. When the clutch starts to grab at that point, slowly add a little trottle while slowly letting the clutch out. You almost do it at the same time, and away you go. A lot of people will rev up first and then let the clutch out. That will get you going in a hurry, but it will wear out your clutch faster. Practice in an empty parking lot so you don't think about feeling silly.

Also, remember all new clutches are sticky, and smell or burn when new. So don't be over worried. And, it's a little more difficult to learn in a performance car. Good luck, we all had to learn at some time.
