Richard Pryor: A Legend in My Eyes

Im no comedien in the making, but I definitely have an ear for great comedy. Growing up, my dad loved comedy. His favorite was evident. He was a Bill Cosby fan. At that time in my life, I didnt understand adult humor and didnt have the appreciation for it as I do now. Before I was re-introduced to standup again, I saw many of Richard Pryors movies of which I loved each and everyone of them from "The Toy" to one of my personal favorites "Which Way is Up". I failed to mention all of the movies he did with Gene Wilder(another actor I really like). I began watching Def Comedy Jam which pulled me into the scene of stand up comedy. As I had the chance to look back and watch some of Richard's stand up routines, I realized where the majority of these comediens got their styles.

I seriously suggest if you are a fan of comedy to go and pick up his comedy routines on DVD. some have more than one show on them. They will have your sides hurting.

I lived in Baton Rouge when The Toy was film. We lived right down the street from A.C. Lewis' house where it was filmed. My brothers and I were forunate to watch him during filming. He waved at us, and we thought "what a hell of a guy". He was truly a pioneer. It was sad to see him in his MS state after watching him film The Toy taking prat falls. Too bad the Kid turned out to be a porno star. LOL!! He will be missed! RIP
