What 2-way radios do you use??
The Skyline drive is going to be my first time meeting everyone and I saw that it was recommend getting a 2-way radio to keep in touch. I plan on being a full time member and start hanging out more and wanted to see how often you guys use them. Also, is there one that a lot of other members have and they like? I don’t want to spend a ton on this but if they are used all the time when the club gets together, then I will spend a little extra to get a good one.

hmm not sure, another member bought 2 and I was supposed to pay him half..they cost him both $15 and worked well enough. I personally wouldnt spend more than like $20-30 for a pair...they are motorola and orange in color. Most of us bought ours from radio shack...
model is either the motorola T5500, or T5550. i got it from Target instead of radioshak because they were trying to hustle me. all theres were like 50 or 60 bucks with 3-5 mile range. the ones i got is cheaper and has 8 mile range.
That model will be more than enough. We all have cheap ones that were on sale at the time for $15. I think ours eat batteries too so have to make sure to recharge or buy some new ones before another trip. I wouldnt pay too much to range. Ours say 1-2 miles I think but we were lucky if we could even get half mile i think and even then it was breaking up.

There are 2 radio bands most public radios operate on: FRS (Family Radio Service), and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service). Typically if you buy a GMRS radio, it will have FRS bands. You're supposed to have an FCC license to operate a GMRS radio, but basically as long as you're not a moron, spewing crap all the time on it, I don't think you have to worry. GMRS has a greater range than FRS so if possible you want to run on GMRS bands.
